This seems to indicate that Sophia did NOT belong to Cabell - although the census reports taken after the marriage seem to indicate that Sophia lived with them early on. What do you make of John's will? Have you seen the court records after John's death where Elizabeth and Cabell file for benefits from John's service to the Contental Army? John Hogg/Hogue was in Amherst county before its creation. The family was gone by 1840 some moving to Rockbridge. Other relations are: Noel, Shoemaker, Sledd, Key, Peters, Goodrich, Gue, Crawford, Paxton, and Tully (to mention a few).

Fleming Hall Duncan and Sarah "Sally" Johns were my gggg-grandparents. Their first child was named John Richardson Duncan (b. June 1, 1799, Amherst Co., Va.) Sarah had an older sister, Mary J. Johns, who was married to John Richardson (1754-1798.) Could this John Richardson (Sarah's uncle) be the John Richeson mentioned (below) in the marriage record of Fleming Duncan and Sally Johns as Sally's guardian? Carolyn, my Jennings came from Powhatan County (1782+) to Buckingham, to appomattox and then to Amherst(1836+). Names in that line would be a Benjamin Jennings married to a Sally Dickerson, his son John William Jennings, Senior married to an Anna Waldron, his son Daniel Webster Jennings and then his son Samuel Henry Jennings, my great grand father.
