    3. Could someone who lives in or around the Madison Heights area or someone who knows the area give me directions to Mead Cemetery as soon as possible. My grandfather is buried there and I plan to visit Tuesday or Wednesday. Since I live about five hours away from that area and also plan to visit the Springhill Cemetery in Lynchburg I would really like to know exactly how to get where I want to go to see the graves. Thanks ever so much for any help! Sincerely, Shirley Carroll

    1. [VAAMHERS-L] Re: VAAMHERS-D Digest V99 #36
    2. Hi, I am interested in Amherst Co. also. The 1850 census gives this reference to Henry Franklin: Henry Franklin, age 65, farmer. Jane (may be second? wife), age 55; Arther, age 24; Benjamin, age 25; Abner, age 20; Ann, age 22; and John age 10. Hope this is helpful. I am researching Fulcher. If you should stumble upon anything, I would love to have it. Also, remember that Amherst Co. did not come into existence until the 1760s. Henry's father may have been from Flauvanna or Caroline Counties. People settling Amherst Co. generally followed the James River on up. Amherst would be on the trail to possible western outlets through the Blue Ridge Mountains. Also, did you know that Amherst Co. was a noted area for Native Americans? Let me know if this is helpful. 2. The Moore-Bridgewater connection has been a problem for me for sometime. My Betsy Bridgewater m William Moore in Amherst Co. 2 Feb. 1789, their dau. Polly m 26 June 1808, Samuel Hill (in AC). Samuel Hill died and Polly m 2nd George W. Tribble. Polly and Samuel Hills dau. Sallie Moore Hill m John Massie, Jr 30 Oct. 1833. Marriage bond in AC as follows: Parent, Samuel Hill dec'd consent of George W. Tribble & Polley Tribble. Surety: Thomas Massie, Thomas G. Hill, Lucinda M. Tribble. John and Sallie Massie were my great grandparents. My problems with researching the Moore's are there are two families in Amherst Co. and both carry the same given names. The following information is from DAR paper #617822 approved April 16, 1977 this is the only Benjamin Moore paper on file and I think it applies to your family. Benjamin Moore - Amherst Co. Militia: also Public Service b ca 1740 d Sept 1792, AC, VA m ca 1761 Letitia Martin, (d Oct 1806), children as follows: John Moore, William Moore, Elizabeth m Richard Perkins on 12 Nov 1779, Thomas Moore, Benjamin Moore b 27 May 1767 m Mary Polly Price Perkins, Obediah Moore m 23 Apr. 1798 Aggy Cowhard, Mildred Moore m 23 Nov 1790 Hardin Perkins, and Sally Moore m 18 Nov. 1794 Andrew Donald. Most of this activity was in Bedford, Co. Va. You can e-mail me direct if you would like a copy of the reference material used for the info. Rebecca Dawson Fox Virginian in Missouri

    1. [VAAMHERS-L] Stoneham and Dillard
    2. Hi, I am searching for the burial place of Henry John Stoneham. He died in 1815 in Jackson Co Ga. He married Jane Dillard. After his death Jane and their 15 children moved to Alabama then Texas. I looked in Jackson Co cemetery book and he is not listed. I think he may have been buried on his property and may be the only one buried there. Is there a chapter of DAR in Jackson Co? Henry John fought in the American Revolution and I thought they may have info. He came to Ga from Amherst Co Va. Thanks, Pat
