The following is a list of BROWN's who supposedly served in the Rev. War and were from Amherst Co. Does anyone know any more about these BROWN's? Are they related? Andrew BROWN, John BROWN, Sr., John BROWN, Jr., Morris BROWN, and William BROWN. I have an Andrew BROWN b. c. 1760, VA, d. 1803, North Garden, Albemarle Co., VA, m. c. 1780, Albemarle Co., VA, Mary FORTUNE b. 1762 Albemarle Co., VA, d. Hi Listers and fellow-Researchers, Just hoping that some one of you has access to this census reports/ or personal information that can enlighten me on a particular subject of my search. I obtained information on my ancestor SUSAN ROBERTS b: abt. 1810 (mother of MARGARET ROBERTS b: abt. 1841, who was the mother of JENNY ROBERTS b: abt 1864) from the Amherst Co.,VA census report of 1850. Here SUSAN is listed as 40 yrs. old and there are five ROBERTS children listed in her household: JOHN 21, GARLAND 16, JESSE 13, GUSTAVUS 11, and my MARGARET 9. But I do not have a "marital status" for her, and since there is reportedly no male "head" present in this household - I need to know if she is listed as "widowed" or "single" or what. She is listed again on the 1870 with her unmarried daughter, Margaret and two grandchildren. But on this information too, I do not have a "marital status". Is there anyone who can help me with this particular ROBERTS family? I will greatly appreciate any help! Pam pamjt@saa.net
A few miles north of Lowesville on what appears to be the county line between Nelson and Amherst counties is CRAWLEY CREEK. One source says it is also known as CAULEY CREEK. Thomas CRAWLEY was born in Amherst Co. April 25, 1755. I would like to know if the creek is named for this family and if they lived in the area. Any information about the CRAWLEY family in Amherst county would be greatly appreciated. Jerry

Hi y'a all - Last night I installed Prodigy Internet's New Version 5. Big mistake because it caused me to lose EVERYTHING in my mailbox!!! So, I'm asking if you can send me the URL for the Lib. of VA's Civil War Pension Records. I desperately need it back. Thanks. P.S. Oh, and by the way... my old mailbox appears to have been stored in my C drive. Does anyone know how I can retrieve it? I have Windows '98'. I, too, would be interested in any information anyone on the List might have concerning this CABELL (sometimes spelled Cabble) WOOD found living (and apparently dieing) in the Amherst Co.,VA area. It has been hinted that this Cabell may not have been his "given" name - so that, some one of you might know him as another "Wood" - possibly with an initial "C" somewhere in his name. And, since he was married to ELIZABETH PHILIPS/PHILLIPS after the age of 34/35 you may even have him married to someone else. Though doubtful he had any other children - since his Will only mentions his youngest three born to to him by Elizabeth ("Betsy") and the daughter of their oldest, unmarried daughter, MARY WOOD, who died BEFORE Cabell died in 1862. (This granddaughter of Cabell Wood, AURORA WOOD, was my greatgrandfather's mother). Cabell & Elizabeth (Phillips) Wood's children are named as: MARY A. WOOD b: abt. 1823, OLIVER C. WOOD b: abt. 1825, ELIZABETH WOOD (MITCHELL) b: abt 1828, and JAMES A. WOOD b: abt. 1835. It is reported that the oldest daugther, Mary Wood may have been engaged and about to marry a "WEAKLY/WEEKLY" before she died. OLIVER C. WOOD married a MARGARET CASKEY and JAMES A. WOOD married an EMILY TYGRET. Anyone? Thank you. Pam pamjt@saa.net
I have been looking for parents, siblings or anyone related to Cabell Wood. He appears in Amherst co. on the 1810 census. He married Elizabeth Phillips in 1821. From the census he was born in 1786. He was my ggggrandfather. He died in 1862 but cannot find any record of his death except a will in 1862. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Shirley
I would like to get several people's opinions here... that is, those of you who are researching the Franklin lines of Amherst, Bedford and surrounding counties... It appears that there were several Franklin's in the early 1700's... Henry Franklin Sr., Lewis Franklin Sr., I believe there was also an Owen Franklin Sr. and Thomas Franklin Sr. Does anyone here believe that all these were related in someway, perhaps brothers? Cousins? Please let me know your opinion. Anna - Phoenix, AZ - USA * * Wild Wild West * * annaw4@prodigy.net
