Hello, I am new to the list and am wondering if there are any Kirkpatrick, Garner and/or Bryant families which were prominent in Early Amherst Co.(ca. 1750-1800)? I am seeking a connection to James Monroe Cash b. 1826 East TN who's father was a John from Granville Co. NC. From the names used by this family, there may have been ties to Amherst Co. VA and above names, including Stephen Cash who was from Amherst Co. VA during these time frames. Does anyone have any Kirkpatrick's, Garner's or Bryant's in Amherst Co. ca. 1750-1800? Thanks for any help..Chris Cash

Hi to all- I'm new to this list. I am doing research in Amherst and Nelson Counties for several different sides of my and my husband's families. Right now one of the names I'm researching in Amherst is Magann/ Magan (It was later changed by my grandfather's time to McGann). Specifically Merrit(t) Magann and Sophia White married in Amherst- April 17, 1819. They moved to Nelson Co., VA sometime before the 1850 census, haven't found out much more yet. I know some of their children, I believe their William is my ancestor, but I don't have concrete proof. I have a little toddler that makes it difficult to get out and research in quiet places (!), so mostly I've been using the internet and mailing off for certificates and such. ANY info. on a Magann/ Magan/ McGann would be appreciated. Thank you, Janet
Dear Andy, This is in reply to your query regarding Maurice Wright and is being sent to the Amherst and Wright lists for their information as well. My records list Morris or Maurice Wright as born between 1765 & 1785 and probably before 1782, resided in 1796 & 1797 at Amherst County, Virginia, married Mary Lawless on Sep 29, 1797, at Amherst County, Virginia (as you have), resided 1798 to 1807 at Amherst County, Virginia, and resided in 1810 at Lincoln County, Kentucky. Morris or Maurice Wright was a son of 1807 (year of death) Isaac Wright of Amherst County, Virginia, (place of death) and Susannah (Ellis)Wright and grandson of 1767 Francis Wright of Amherst County, Virginia, and Mary (Hawkins) Wright. I would be happy to exchange information with other researchers interested in this family. Robert N. Would there be anyone from the list who has access to the 1910 Amherst Co.,VA census report? I have been seeking information regard the family of Will & Jennie Burch. Probably listed in the Pedlar district. I have the info from the 1900 which list their children as: Rose Lee, Nannie, Pate, and a 2 yr old male son - appearing only as "Baby". I need to see the info on them from the 1910, to learn the name of the 2year old son - and there SHOULD have been another daughter born to them later in the year of 1900. I have the info from the 1920, but by this time only Will & Jennie are listed and the children have all left home. I would DEEPLY appreciate assistance from anyone good person who could help. Thanking you in advance, Pam pamjt@saa.net

Moved with his family to the county of Amherst, ( then Albemarle) about the year 1754, and settled the original seat of the Ellis family in that county, since known as "Red Hill", on the waters of Pedlar River. Died May 4th 1759, and was buried in the family burying ground at Red Hill. 55. Susanna Harding, the daughter of Thomas Harding and Mary, his wife, was born on Tuckahoe, in the county of Henrico, Virginia, in the year 1721 ( or1722). Married secondly, 93, John Beckley.
