    2. Lawless
    3. Me'cou All; That is "Greetings" in the Tutelo-Saponi Language, that the Monacans Indians of Virginia originally spoke. Let me introduce myself. I am a member of the Monacan Indian Nation of Virginia and I am researching the various Monacan Line in Virginia. Mostly in Virginia, Maryland, and Tennessee. Primary lines are Adcock, Beverly, Branhams, Duffs, Evans, Hamiltons, Hicks, Johns, Knuckles, Lawless, Nuckles, Penn, Redcross. These surnames have been listed as Mulatto, Colored, Black, Indian, or White in various official records. I have a lot of information on the Johns and Branhams. I am looking for more information on the other lines. My enigma is trying to determine the father of Bennett Lawless. It is either Richard Lawless and his second wife Elizabeth Goodrich, or it is William Lawless, who was the s/o of Richard LAWLESS and his first wife. Richard1 LAWLESS was born Bet. 1750 - 1760, and died Aft. 1815 in Virginia. He married (1) UNKNOW Bef. 1775. He married (2) Elizabeth GOODRICH 25 June 1785 in Amherst, Co VA, daughter of James GOODRICH and Margaret UNK. Children of Richard LAWLESS and UNKNOW are: 2. i. William LAWLESS, b. 1. RE: [VAAMHERS-L] Roll Call: Bolling-Bowling
    2. James F.(Fred) Emory
    3. Hello Listers -- I am looking for the parents of John Bolling/Bowling who married a Sarah "Sally" ??? around 1790. I can not find a marriage for them in Amherst, Campbell, Patrick, Albemarle, or Buckingham Counties. Buckingham's records were destroyed by a fire in 1868, so they may have been there. John Bolling shows on a land transaction in Amherst in 1789. September 7, 1789 Charles Christian and wife, Sarah, to John Bolling for L55 - 118 acres on Buffalo -- top of Braxton's Ridge. Then, 27 January 1797, John Bolling and wife, Sarah, Charles Christain and wife, Sarah, to Barnett Owen -- 156 acres South side of Buffalo. It appears John married Sarah between 1790 and 1796. Their children were William L. Bolling b. abt. 1790, Susannah Bolling abt. 1792 married Richard Whitten--Amherst, Sally Bolling abt 1794 married John C. Blanks 1807 in Amherst, daughter unknown about 1796, Thomas H. Bolling 1798 - 1860 married Rhoda Campbell, John D. Bolling b 1801 married (1) Gracey Allen, (2) Juriah Terry, (3) Rhoda A. Creasy, Elizabeth Bolling 1802 married William Burford. In the early 1800's John and Sarah owned property on old Lynch road as well as two boats on the James River which his sons inherited. On the records their last names show both spellings Bolling and Bowling sometimes on the same document. I descend from Thomas H. and Rhoda Campbell Bolling. If anyone can shed any light on John's parents or Sarah "Sally" maiden name it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -- James

    1. [VAAMHERS-L] CAMPBELL-MAYS
    2. Mary Ellen
    3. My line in Amherst and Nelson counties are Campbell and Mays. Bartholomew Campbell married Tabitha Mays 1820 in Amherst County. They had two sons LeeRoy Campbell and James Anderson Campbell. Bartholomew Campbell died 1827. Bartholomew's parents are George Campbell and Edith (Eady) Whitehead. I am unsure as to Tabitha's parents. Charles Garland Mays was surety on the marriage record. Tabitha has been referred to as Judah Tabitha by some relatives. However, Tabitha is not listed in Charles Garland Mays' will. Charles was married twice, first to Rhoda Cash who I have been told is Tabitha's mother. His second wife was a Sarah last name unknown. It appears that in Charles Garland Mays' will he lists his family by his second wife. I would love to correspond with anyone who has information on the Mays' and/or Campbells. I have not been able to find anything on Tabitha Mays Campbell after Bartholomew's death until 1880 Nelson County Census living with her son LeeRoy Campbell. Her age is listed as 75. It is said that they moved back into Amherst County where Tabitha died in 1892. Would like to find out what happened to Tabitha between the time Bartholomew died and 1880. Her son James Anderson Campbell came to Upshur County, WV married Sarah Ann Curry, settled in Harrison County, WV. James Anderson Campbell and Sarah Ann Curry are my grgr grandparents. Any help with this family would be greatly appreciated. would love to share information. Mary Ellen Campbell Mathers.
