Posted on: Amherst County Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Amherst?read=400 Surname: McDaniel ------------------------- Ann: I don't find an appropriate Sarah ("Sally") McDaniel in my material on the McDaniel family from Wood's (1932) book. George McDaniel, Sr. had a daughter Sarah born about 1750 in Albemarle Co, which would make her too old. She evidently married a Tinsley. John and Margaret Rucker McDaniel's son William had Sally Rucker McDaniel (b. 6 July 1802; d. 3 October 1827), right age, but she married --?-- Myers on 16 October 1817. John and Margaret's sons George and Ambrose Rucker McDaniel married in time to have a child old enough to marry in 1820, but I have no information about the children of either of these sons. George m. Frances Higginbotham on 18 December 1801; Ambrose Rucker m. Olive Sandidge on 28 November 1804. Again, data from Wood (1932). Sorry I don't have more. Tom

Memorial Day is a day off. It is a picnic with brats, dogs, burgers, potato salad, baked beans & a beverage of your choice. Memorial Day also signifies the opening of the pool season. But let's not forget what Memorial Day is all about. Let's remember those who fought & served in our armed services. Through genealogical research & the kindness of newfound cousins, I have found many examples of what Memorial Day is all about. This Memorial Day I will remember: * Jack Dempsey Peters, my father's first cousin, who perished in Korea. * William Peters, brother to my gg grandfather Jonathan Peters, who died from head wounds suffered during "Pickett's Charge" at Gettysburg. * Jordan Nichols Peters, my ggg grandfather, who fought in the War of 1812. * Zachariah Peters, brother of my gg grandfather Jonathan Peters, who lost a leg in the Civil War. * Sanford Gadd, brother-in-law of my gg grandfather Jonathan Peters, who died at the Battle of New Market during the Civil War. * My ggggg grandfathers Reuben Huffman & Frederick Lemon who fought for the 13 Colonies independence in the Revolutionary War. * My great uncle E. A. "Lash" Coleman who fought in WWII. * My great uncle Thermos Hinzman who was a POW in Hitler's Nazi Germany. * My great uncles Vernon, Lawrence, Jack & Guy Pritt -- brothers of my grandmother Mernia Pritt Coleman & all veterans of the WWII saga. * My father Shelby H. Peters, a Korean War veteran, who died while on active duty July 31, 1967. Please remember to place some flowers & flags on graves this weekend. Please remember to thank some veterans & please pass me another brat. Happy Memorial Day! Mike Peters npeters102@aol.com
