Janet, there are people who scour genealogy sites and other sites to glean e-mail addresses for spam purposes. You might be able to get rid of them by going to your in-box assistant and instructing it to delete their posts from your server. I get a lot of spam because I sometimes write letters to the editor of on-line newspapers and I think they may get my addy that way. Also, when I forward something, I take care to remove headers like this so I won't give the e-mail addy to anyone else. -----Original Message----- From: Janet B <genie2500@yahoo.com> To: VAAMHERS-L@rootsweb.com <VAAMHERS-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, August 02, 2000 6:22 AM Subject: [VAAMHERS-L] moved e-mail & lookups Not everyone does that because they may not know that if someone wants to use that info to spam they can. I understand that hotmail has some sort of filter to protect from spam. Good luck! Ann Wilmer
Am searching for the parents/siblings of Zachariah Peters who married Kessiah Lively on 18 November 1794 in Amherst County, VA. My research has led me to believe that the surnames Peter & Peters are interchangeable. In Amherst County VA Deeds, 1761-1807 we find the following: 7 Feb 1800. RICH. BREEDLOVE & wife MILDRED, to NELSON ANDERSON for $300, 180 acres branches S fork Rockfish. Lines: JNO. BALL, WM. KEY, Glade Road, WM. CABELL, JAS. NEVIL. THOS. KEYS. Wit: ZACH. NEVIL, ELISHA PETERS, ZACH. PETERS, CAREL EADS. This is the only evidence found so far that links Zachariah Peters to a contemporary of the same surname. Because of this, I believe that Zachariah & Elisha may be brothers or cousins. The hunt for Zachariah Peters 1st led myself & some other Peters' researchers to Amherst County, VA & a Rev. William Peter(s). According to a biography posted at ancestry.com, William Peter(s) was a minister of the Church of England who settled in VA in 1750 & who died in 1773. That same biography tells us that one of William Peter(s)' children was Elisha Peters who married Cynthia Turner on 17 February 1806 in Amherst County, VA. There is also another Amherst County marriage of an Elisha Peters to Jane Tiller on 1 June 1792. I do not know if these 2 marriages contain the same or different grooms. According to other information, the Rev. William Peter(s), father of Elisha, came from England with 2 brothers -- Richard Peter & John Peter, Jr. Another researcher has told us that Amherst County records indicate that land was purchased by William, Richard & John, Jr. in 1760. This land was in Albemarle County at the time. Can anyone tell me more about this Peter/Peters family? Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you in advance for any information or guidance in this matter. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Mike Peters npeters102@aol.com

To the Amherst and Nelson County lists, Due to annoying and offensive spam I've been receiving to this address, I'm going to remove this e-mail account. I have been to the Amherst historical museum and done some of the requested general birth lookups- MOON, JOHNS, HAMILTON, and BRANHAM but haven't got to go to the courthouse. Thank you for being patient on the lookups. I will rejoin the list after cancelling this account and after I finish reporting the addresses of the spam senders to their internet providers. At that time, I will post the information I have. As I have used this account for only 5 rootsweb mailing lists, I'm interested as to how I got on a spam list in the first place. Thanks, Janet __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Kick off your party with Yahoo! Invites. http://invites.yahoo.com/

Posted on: Amherst County Queries Board URL: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Amherst?read=478 Surname: RIPPETO, RIPPETOE, HAMILTON, BROWN, COFFEE, MAYS, HILL, TAYLOR, HAMILTON ------------------------- Other researchers tell me that Peter Oglesby RIPPETO and first wife Millie HAMILTON were the parents of James RIPPETO b. ca 1767 who married Nancy BROWN; John RIPPETO b. ca 1760 who married Abigail STRICKLAN; Wm RIPPETO ; Mary "Polly" b. ca 1760 who mar. Wm. COFFEE jr.; Malinda "Millie" RIPPETO who mar. John MAYS; Sarah "Sallie" RIPPETO who mar. Pleasant HILL; Susannah RIPPETO who mar. Zachariah BROWN; Elizabeth RIPPETO who mar. Jordan COFFEE; Peter Rippeto who mar. Martha TAYLOR; Nancy RIPPETO who mar. Robert HAMILTON; and Sarah RIPPETO who mar. John HAMILTON. I have not documented all of this and as you can see there are two Sarahs listed. I don't know about that. One researcher believes that Sary or Sarah RIPPETO, wife of Peter O. was the widow Sarah HENRY. I don't believe this to be correct. Sarah HENRY died in 1785 and her will was probated 2nd May 1785. Peter and wife Sary were listed in the 1802 Amherst co. VA deeds. Peter Oglesby RIPPETO was supposedly the son of John and Elizabeth RIPPETO or RIPPETOE.

Amazon.com lists books by Bailey Davis. The Amherst County Public Library has a set. Bailey's wife lives in Lynchburg, VA and I know his son. Posted on: Amherst County Queries Board URL: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Amherst?read=475 Surname: Rippeto, Coffey ------------------------- Amherst County Marriage Book lists marriage of Polly Rippeto(e), daughter of Peter and Sarah to William Coffey Jr. b. 1762, on 11-02-1790. Peter and Sarah had another daughter, Elizabeth, who married Jordan Coffey 02-21-1803. I realize this is a silly question, since I live in Amherst County now, but how many Peter Rippetos could there have been in Amherst County in 1790? I have a great deal of Coffey information if you're interested.

Hi all, Need to upgrade your Family Tree Maker program? I have a copy of the latest version listed on amazon.com for auction, starting at $10. You can't beat that with a stick :) I think this version will work for new users of Family Tree Maker as well, so if you've been thinking about purchasing genealogy software but haven't yet, this could be a good opportunity to get a good one cheap. If anyone is interested in it who doesn't already have Family Tree Maker, let me know & I'll check with Family Tree Maker to see if this will work for you. The auction is at http://s1.amazon.com/exec/varzea/ts/exchange-glance/Y01X0005276X0337901/002-5268245-7801624 and if you need more info, please email me rather than post to the list. Thanks!!!
