Here is what I have from my files, sent to me by Norm Ricker, who believes that the Moss family either were caught up with the Indian removal or sold all their land and fled the area. Andy Lawless Norm Ricker <normhr@ij.net>, "Electronic," Mallory's daughter Sally married Richard Moss; their son John born about 1800 is my focus of interest. My ancestor is John Moss born 1801 who married Nancy Boatright in Franklin County GA when he was age 17 (1818). The Boatrights moved to Franklin County from Bedford County VA, and I suspect that John Moss moved with them. The Moss and Boatright families were of the same Quaker Monthly Meeting. I have not been able to prove that the John son of Richard Moss and Sally Johns is the John Moss that married Nancy Boatright in GA. My focus is to find out what happened to widow Sally Johns Moss and her adult children on 11 Mar 1832, when each and every one of them sold their property in Bedford County and disappeared. Several of the children of John Moss and Nancy Boatright married Native Americans. Six descendants of theirs are researching the family; all report their parents and grandparents were very circumspect about their family background. My mother was told that what she did not know about her family would not hurt her, and the family did not want the past exposed. Her grandfather abandoned her grandmother with three children and married a Cherokee woman. (Found out by research and other descendants). Most of the six family researchers think Richard and Sally Johns Moss are our ancestors; that widow Sally and her adult children were fleeing removal west, or were removed west. No one has been able to find out where any of them went. If they are our John Moss' siblings, they could have avoided record of where they went. The only record we have of our John Moss' past is the 1850 Federal Census of Franklin County GA, where he is enumerated as born in SC. (Could be deliberate disinformation) and the fact that he married Nancy Boatright at a young age coupled with the family having moved to GA from Bedford County VA, inferring close family ties. Well I know this is is a lot more than you wanted to know! Sorry. Norm. Also, from Norm; Norm Ricker <normhr@ij.net>, "Electronic," Descendants of Richard MOSS Bedford VA-2321 20 Nov 1998 1. I have a copy of the marriage license of Mathew H. Taylor and Elizabeth Cash dated 26 Oct 1880, showing his parents as George W. & L. Taylor and hers parents as W.(Washington) and M. (Sarah Martha/Margaret) Cash. His age is 19 and hers is 39. I have done a lot of research in this Cash family and I don't believe Signora is of this family. Hannah Gardner Cash 1856-1940 was a daughter of George R. & Martha Campbell Cash in 1879 she married George W. Taylor 1856-1920 son of Luke C. & Lavenia Hite Taylor. Carol H. Posted on: Amherst County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Amherst/493 Surname: ------------------------- Hi Barbara, My chart and data are at present about one generation ahead of your Ancestor Polly Thacker. The only two candidates in Amherst county for your next generation back appear to be Tempey Thacker, born 1781 (I have no data on him, if indeed Tempey is "a him") and Joel Thacker, born 1783 and married to a Sarah Burford. I am expecting soon to receive additional information on the progeny of Pettis Thacker from a correspondent who connects through the Burford line. Possibly your Polly might appear there. Otherwise, since you allude to a possible Albemarle county connection, your descendancy might come from Benjamin Thacker Sr. who had some 14 children by three wives of which I am aware. I plan to expand these generations on my chart, but unfortunately do not at present have this data at hand. Hope this might prove helpful, and will pass on any further leads I run across. To all Native American and those interested in Native American affairs. I am writing asking for your help on the behave of the eight state recognize tribes in Virginia. The Commonwealth of Virginia formally recognize the Chickahominy, Chickahominy Eastern Division, Mattaponi, Upper Mattaponi, Monacan, Nansemond, Pamunkey and Rappahannock. By the use of historical records, treaty documentation, and archaeological evidence, these tribes can trace their history back to before European contact in Jamestown Virginia in 1607. For those on the list, the Monacans were the Native American group living in what is now Amherst, Buckingham, Bedford, Campbell counties, when the English first arrived. That is why I have posted this request to the list. The Virginia Indian people need your help! The eight state recognized tribes of Virginia are currently in the process of seeking Historic Federal Recognition through Congress with a bill sponsored by Congressman James. P. Moran. We are asking for your support of this bill. THE THOMASINA E. JORDAN INDIAN TRIBES OF VIRGINIA FEDERAL RECOGNITION ACT OF 2000 has been introduced to Congress, the bill number is: H.R. 5073. I am asking you to please write a letter to the Chairman Congressman Don Young and to any of the other Congressmen or Congresswomen on the list that may be from your state. The tribes would be very appreciative of any support received in our endeavor to seek federal recognition. Thank you. Hi Barbara, In AMHERST COUNTY, VIRGINIA IN THE REVOLUTION, by Lenora Higginbotham Sweeny, there is a Francis Weathered who wanted to built a grist mill on Beaver Branch found in notes from court held 3 Jul 1775. In HISTORY OF ALBEMARLE COUNTY IN VIRGINIA, by Rev. Edgar Woods, Francis Weathered again mentioned with William Wood with whom he purchased land in 1778. Also in same book, there is a mention of Robert E. Withers who was nominated for governor by the Conservative Convention held May 7 (there is no specific year mentioned but last mention of a year in previous paragraph was 1868). Hope this helps, Kelley

According to some death information I received yesterday a G.W. Weathers was born in Amherst county in about 1815. His father was listed as James E. Withers. I had always looked for this line in Augusta, Fauquier and Stafford Counties. Any help appreciated with many thanks in advance. Sincerely, Barbara in Idaho
Hi Shirley, I e-mailed you some time ago regarding the Hill family. I finally figured out that Jane WATTS (abt. 1804-1889) was married to John HILL bef. 1828. She was married a second time to Moses MAGANN (1808-1886) on 22 Mar 1829 in Amherst Co., VA. Jane's brother, William WATTS, was married to Mary HILL. Do you have a John HILL in your family info and if so do you know if he died or they divorced? Thanks, Kelley
