Hi All, I *may* (hopefully, keep your fingers crossed) get to go to Amherst next week *if* my husband has a little time off to watch the baby. I would like to post my lookup list of people who have contacted me. Some of the e-mails I didn't save, but kept the name on my list and I can just post it to everyone. That way whenever anyone searches the archives, which I do on various lists frequently, the information will still be there for them. So, here's what I have. If I left you off, please set me straight and I do apologize. Please remember the only births for sure I have access to are the years 1867-1879. If the rector to the Episcopal church is there, I've been told to ask him and he will let me see the old church records which a member told my husband's grandpa dates to 1848, but the museum lady said they're older. We'll see, if I can get to them. If I get some of the lookups done, I'll start posting them. If you don't hear from me I didn't make it out. Thanks for your patience. Here's the list (just ignore my notes to myself- this is a quick cut and paste job): Janet Amherst county lookups: ( this is for me :) ) #1. If marriage books one, two, and three are back, find parents names for all MAGAN/MAGANN marriages 2. STINNETT & DAVIS marriages with parents births: BURDEN, GOAD for Joan, ROWSEY older dates (if I can find older records): (see e-mail copy) John THOMPSON and Judith WILLS for Sissy Hime Norris (see e-mail copy) Willis William/ William Willis PAGE & Elizabeth PARRISH from Donna MOON for Deborah Clark Joseph CARTER (married Balasah ?) abt 1804-1806 for Jacquelin Troilo biographies: HALL, RAIKES, O'BRIAN for Doug Burnett - CUNNINGHAM (any before Joseph and Marshall), RUCKERS, BRANCH, HILL, DEXTER, EDWIN S. Mary's story reminded me of an article I wrote once for Rural Living, the customer magazine of the MD-DE-VA Association of Electrical Cooperatives about "Shore" placenames. Most people enjoyed it but at least one person wrote the editor that he thought I was making fun of them! But we do have some peculiar pronunciations were I'm from down on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Visitors asking directions could use a lexicon. BTW: My Mom, Frances Wilmer, and I used to write a cooking coloumn for Rural Living. Do any list-members get the magazine? Ann

Can't resist this. The post on pronunciation of names reminded me of a time a few years ago when I was in contact with a gentleman in NC -- he was giving me his maiing address. He said Harkin street -- I spelled it back to him, and he said "no, it is Hurricane." Cousin Mary in OK p.s. we talk funny, too. Mary Bryant Park crosstich@webtv.net

In the Amherst museum, I found a little booklet with some short biographical sketches of Amherst men, who apparently served in the Civil War.
