    1. [VAAMHERS-L] William Phelps
    2. Yvonne Stone Slonaker
    3. Posted on: Amherst County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Amherst/651 Surname: Phelps ------------------------- I do not know if I am a descendent of William Phelps as I have searched for years to find the parents of my great grandfather, James Burks Phelps. I know that his family originally came from Buckingham Co., but he was living in Amherst Co. when he entered service in the Confederate Army. There were 2 other Phelps families that had sons named James about the same age in the 1850 censuses--1 in Amherst Co. and 1 in Campbell Co. They all seemed to use the same names over and over: James, John, Joseph, Frances, etc. I have not been able to prove which family James Burks belonged with. I do not have a birth date for him, but he died Nov. 28, 1904 at Six Mile Bridge. He married Amanda Elizabeth Doss in Appomattox Co. in Dec., 1865. If anyone can give me even a slight clue to his family, I would be so grateful. This has truly been a huge brick wall for me. Thanks. Yvonne

    1. [VAAMHERS-L] Archives & Season's Greetings!!
    2. Jeannie
    3. I hope you have all been enjoying the Holidays and that each of you will have a wonderful new year. I've been absent from my duties with the Archives pages for a while and I just wanted to let you all know that I have not forgotten about them. I worked on them as hard as I could the first part of November, knowing that might be the last chance I'd get in a while, and it turned out to be true. So now my plan is to do my best to see to it that I get things caught up as soon as possible. During my trip back home over the Thanksgiving Holidays, I was able to visit some graveyards, and so have some new files to upload of my own as well. That's always exciting! My apologies to you all for the delay; as always your patience is highly appreciated. Thanks so much! Jeannie PS. For those of you who've written to me regarding my books, give me a bit more time to get back to you on those. Thank you so much for your interest and just as soon as I can get these archives straigtened out, I will be happy to answer all of your questions to the best of my ability. Thanks again, J Happy Holidays from the Watts' Family: Jeannie, Richard, Samantha, Jennifer and all our critters!!! ************* Now Available: "The Descendants of John Thomas Clay, Jamestown Immigrant and son of Sir John Clay of Wales" Also available: "The Descendants of James Bailey & Lucy Simms" For more info: http://www.trellis.net/users/madamx

    1. [VAAMHERS-L] I recently had a virus so my friends may have it, too!
    2. Ann Wilmer
    3. Somehow I got a Kak worm virus. This is a new kind of bug that doesn't come from opening an attachment but is somehow scripted right into your e-mail so you need to be forewarned in case it has infected you, too. I found out I had it pretty quickly but, in case I corresponded with any of you in the meantime, I wanted to give you a heads up! Here is the site on Norton to help you to know what this is and how to stop it: http://www.sarc.com/ Click on the link that looks like this and it will tell you about your virus type. Wscript.KakWorm I also found this a helpful site: http://antivirus.about.com/compute/antivirus/library'blkak.htm as it provided me with step-by-step instructions on how to remove it. I have installed the Norton Anti-Virus which makes it relatively easy to clear the Kaw orm virus from your computer. I was able to clear it on my own but the Norton software helped me to make sure my entire system was clean. It was designed to attack a weakness in the Outlook Express email program, which I use, and there is a patch that you can download from Microsoft to prevent future infections. Go to tools then click on options and then click on signitures and turn off the automatic signature feature as this is how it spreads. But I wasn't using a sig file when it attacked me and it still spread It also goes through your windows program and sets a code to shut off you Windows on the first day of any month. To avoid that, you only have to change your calendar date to the 2nd day of the month to avoid the problem. You may want warn others what happened and all so they can check their systems. 3. Mary, I am told that my grandfather once kept a store at the Forks of Buffalo but I don't know anything more than that except that he was also the postmaster there. His name was Edward Christian Wilmer, and he was also a minister and, at one time, a justice of the peace for the Sandiges area. If you run across anything referring to him, please give me a holler!
