It says so on the marriage certificate. Her mother was Sarah Latham. AFter a lot of work, I found an Amherst deed that shows William and wife Sarah selling their landin Amherst Co, 178 acres on the north branch of the Buffalo River, to Lindsay Coleman in 1787. They moved to KY, where William died. Sealy had a brother Lindsay, who moved to Ky. I have more on the KY line if you are interested.

Mary Ballenger was a sister to Joseph, Richard, Charity, Abigail, Susannah and Elizabeth, named in Joseph Ballenger's will dated 1744, Henrico Co. Joseph was a minister in Amherst Co, presided over several Mays marriages. He sold land on Ballenger's Mt. in Amherst to Joseph Mays in 1760s. Joseph of Henrico I'm told was born in N.J. Both are young and married, and Enoch may have his mother living with him. James and Enoch are seemingly not listed in the 1820 census but there is a James in the 1820 census for Licking Co, OH, and an Enoch in the 1820 census for Jackson Co, OH, and 1830/40 for Hocking Co, OH. I am especially interested in James, who may be the father of my David DIXON, b 1815 in Licking Co, OH, but would also like to know if James and Enoch were brothers. Can anyone provide confirming documentation where possible, and try to answer the questions and concerns I have noted. We have several pieces of information that suggest this descendancy, but what we are missing principally are: A copy of the Will of Charles Lawson CHRISTIAN from Amherst Co. Virginia; An 1840 Census entry for the family of Charles Lawson CHRISTIAN (he did not die until after the date of the Census in Jackson Co., Alabama); Any property entries, or tax entries for the CHRISTIAN family between about 1812 and 1840. I rather think this is the Lemuel L. CHRISTIAN: In 1819 the United States "purchased" Florida from Spain; no money was paid to Spain, but the United States agreed to pay American settlers for damages to their property suffered during battles over Florida. The territory of Florida was organized in 1822. As thousands of settlers poured into Florida the Indians continued to cause trouble. The Seminole had settled on the good farm land in central Florida. When the United States urged Indian tribes to move west, the Seminole massacred Major Francis L. Dade and his troops. This incident in 1835 started the second Seminole War. A call went out for volunteer militia and many from Northeast Alabama responded. Seventeen companies with 60 to 84 men in each formed the North Alabama Mounted Volunteers commanded by Col. CHRISTIAN: In 1819 the United States "purchased" Florida from Spain; no money was paid to Spain, but the United States agreed to pay American settlers for damages to their property suffered during battles over Florida. The territory of Florida was organized in 1822. As thousands of settlers poured into Florida the Indians continued to cause trouble. The Seminole had settled on the good farm land in central Florida. When the United States urged Indian tribes to move west, the Seminole massacred Major Francis L. Dade and his troops. This incident in 1835 started the second Seminole War. A call went out for volunteer militia and many from Northeast Alabama responded. Seventeen companies with 60 to 84 men in each formed the North Alabama Mounted Volunteers commanded by Col. Dillard as born in Amherst Co., VA (1820) and came to Union Parish, Louisiana about 1840 or so. He traveled via Alabama. He and his son, March Dillard, are buried at Sardis Cemetery near Farmerville, LA. I would appreciate any information in exploring the Virginia and Alabama connections of the Dillard family.
