Rhodes in Amherst Co. in 1886. She was the daughter of Henry J. and Mildred Ann Thomas Proffitt. I have found her last in the 1910 Amherst Co. census. Her husband died, I believe, around 1915 or so. He is buried in Meade cemetery. Could anyone help me find the date of her death? According to relatives who have now passed away, she was buried in a private cemetery, but none of her children knew (or could remember) where it was. I would be very grateful for any help that I receive. Thank you.

    1. [VAAMHERS-L] questions and answers
    2. Ann Wilmer
    3. I recently sent a long snail mail letter to my cousin A.T. Powell in Richmond in which I included questions posted to the genealogy lists I subscribe to by various and sundry people that I thought he might have answers for or ideas about where to look for answers. He replied with great enthusiasm and invited anyone with further throughts of questions to exchange snail mail with him at: Arthur T. Powell, Jr., 4608 Carpenter Road, Richmond, VA 23222-1512. He's sharp as a tack but his mind often goes faster than he can write or type so you have to fill in the gaps... ------------------------------------------------------------------------- He was interested to read some information I sent him on Gordon Stinnett and had this to share: Charles A. Stinnett was granddaddy to Zack Stinnett (Charles - Taliaferro - Zachary) who married Ella Wimore (daughter of Bradford Thomas Willmore and Dorothea North) Zack and Ella were the parents of Gordon. Just to further confuse you Charles A.'s daughter, Sallie married Reubin Rowland Wilmore and were the parents of Bradford Thomas and a number of other sons including one of my great grandfather's Robert, father of George W. Gordon's first wife was Lillian Wilmer (daughter of George W. Wilmer who married Sallie Johnson, widow of his cousin John H. Wilmer, son of Bradford). And A.T. mentions that Lillian's sister Sadie was married to Gordon's older brother Clarence Stinnett. Lillian died young leaving Gordon with two young children. Here's where I get get confused easily... Verdie Wilmer Sales, stepped in to take care of Gordon's children until he remarried. Verdie was the daughter of Sallie Lee Johnson and her first husband, John J. Wilmer, so she would have been Lillian's half sister. A.T. said that everyone was upset when Gordon remarried and took his children to Roanoke. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Someone asked a question about Susannah Greshem or Grissom (various spellings) who married William Wilmore in 1805; she was his second wife. According to oral tradition by way of Violet Wright's mother who was Bradford's granddaughter, this William is a brother (probably half brother) to Reubin Wilmore. Their father was James and Reubin's mother was Nancy Mahon but we are not sure of the name of James first wife. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTW: the change in spelling from Wilmore to Wilmer was around the 1880s. Sometime, I must transcribe the notes I have from Violet Jennings Wright because there are many names mentioned that might be useful to someone. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- A. T.'s mother was a Campbell so he had some information on that for folks searching that line. He is descended from Lawson Campbell and Frances Hudson, his wife, through a son Joshua but also has information on son Robert which he shared with one of our listmates by snail mail. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- He also wrote that Martha Tomlinson (Tomlin) b. 1-5-1846 was a sister to his father's grandfather. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- He mentioned that someone looking for Buford (Burford?), Rucker and Bolling connections should try a cousin of ours over the mountain in Monroe so if that's your line, I will hook you up with Glen and Lisa. Same for folks working on the Wills line. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- And he thinks he may have an idea about how a correspondent of ours in Austrialia is linked to the Wilmer's now through a James P. Wilmore (Wilmer). And last but not least, he has some thoughts on Carrie Wilmer orphaned in Indiana many years ago. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- So if I have hit on anything of interest to you, please drop A.T. a line. He loves mail and will be happy to tell you what he does know for sure and what he speculates about. He's very generous with sharing information. He just lost his sister, also interested in genealogy, last week so I'm sure the inquiries will help him to think more pleasant thoughts.
