My grandfather was Jack Lawrence Lawhorne. I have been looking for any info on Landon and would greatly appreciate any help. thanks so much
Doris, It is funny that I joined this list for information on my Penn line and here I am exchanging information on my husband's lines. I am looking for Creed Penn born ca. 1806 in Amherst Co., VA. -- moved to Smith Co., TN and then to Carroll Co., MS. Any Penns in your line? We have a good deal of stuff from my mother-in-laws house, which I cleaned out, but it is not sorted or in any order. So, there is no telling what I may find. My husband keeps saying he wants to work on his lines himself. However, he is so busy with other things that he has not started working on his family history, and in truth, I know more than he does about his family. We are preparing for a research trip to MS in late May. Some time this summer I will try and put some order to the stuff I saved from his mother's house. I will save your message and you will see me post on this list when I can work more on this. I am in contact with someone also working on the same Penn line and she has a Burton connection from Amherst Co., VA. Thana
Doris, I am not currently working on any of my husband's lines. However, his Cottrell line moved into western KY from VA -- as I remember it, the Richmond area. His great grandparents, Peter Cottrell and Rosa Cosby died in Daviess County, KY. There were a number of children -- according to family tradition, at least one daughter was sent back to live with relatives in the Richmond area, where she married a man named Hooker. Contact was maintained for many years, but there was been no contact with the Hooker family in at least twenty years. My husband's grandfather, Joseph Frey Cottrell remained in Daviess County with relatives. When grown, he taught school while studying law. He serviced as city attorney in Owensboro for a short time before moving west for health reasons. He married in Daviess Co., took his wife and son west with him, died in Redlands, CA when his son was about three - can't remember the year, but ca. 1908. This is off the top of my head -- without looking anything up. We do have a good bit on the VA family, but all information was passed down from family and not documented. However, I don't remember any NC connection. Seems I do remember that there is someone with a Cottrell web site or mailing list. Good Luck, Thana
Leslie, I am not actively working on my husband's lines. Just noticed the Campbell name. However, we do have a number of old obits and letters dealing with the Warren County Campbells. The obits are from a very old scrapbook and as I remember include John Sales Campbell's. It may be a while, but as I can find the time, I will post some of them. Thank you for your time in answering me. Thana

Posted on: Amherst County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Amherst/10776 Surname: ------------------------- Has anyone in Amherst Co come across listings of Bible records published in FAMILY PUZZLERS, the weekly genealogy magazine edited by Mary Bondurant Warren from 1964 until 1998? I thought that HERITAGE PAPERS went out of business when Mrs. Warren stopped publishing Puzzlers the end of 1998. Not so!! I recently found the new websites for HERITAGE PAPERS as well as for FAMILY PUZZLERS, TNG, the monthly magazine edited by Mrs. Warren's daughter Amy Warren Sanders! Most of the items that Heritage Papers used to advertise in their annual catalog are still available, including back issues of the quarterly magazines GEORGIA GENEALOGIST and CAROLINA GENEALOGIST, lots of historic maps, as well as source materials for Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Georgia. Some bound volumes of Family Puzzlers are still available. For Heritage Papers, go to http://www.galaxymall.com/books/heritagepapers For Family Puzzlers, The Next Generation, go to http://www.galaxymall.com/books/familypuzzlers I just thought you'd like to know! Hello, I am aware of the Branham families that are in the Monican tribe. Does anyone know the origins of the Bramham or Branham name? i.e, could the name have been taken by an Indian family that married into a Caucasion Family? Or any other variations of this? I am searching the name Branham/Bramham and Napper/Napier in Louisa County, Virginia. Thanks so much. Dee.
Nancy, Did you look at the 1910 Census for Anderson Co., TX to see if there were any other family of Thompson's in the county or surrounding counties, or other connections with the family ... ie: the wife's ( that passed to the other side ) family. Just a thought. Sissy Hime Norris San Antonio, TX descendant to John Thompson and Judith Wills of Amherst and Botetourt Co., VA
