Posted on: Amherst County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Amherst/10808 Surname: Tomlin, Vaughan, Neville ------------------------- Diane Thanks for this teasing tidbit on Nevelle Vaughan Tomlin. I have no idea who this might be! I am descended from both the Vaughan and Neville families who were in Amherst Co in the 1700s but have not come across a Tomlin connection. Perhaps it's time for me to get back to Amherst and Nelson Cos. for some additional digging. David

    3. Posted on: Amherst County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Amherst/10805 Surname: Parr, Vaughn, Campbell, Green, Smith ------------------------- My information concerning the marriage license application for E. Neville Vaughn to Sarah F. Parr is basically the same as yours. The application was for E. Neville Vaughn, age 23, b. Nelson, white, parents W. L. & Fannie E., and Sarah F. Parr, age 21 b. Amherst, single, residence Amherst, white, parents Thos W. and Sarah F. with the register showing no marriage date. I have no knowledge as to why the couple did not marry. However, Sarah Furman Parr did marry Clarence J. Campbell on November 27, 1884. The minister was Thomas Gatewood, whom I believe would have been her uncle. Clarence Campbell was the s/o Joel H. Campbell. Sarah F. Parr and husband Clarence Campbell had seven known children; Moncure, b. Oct 1886; Mary L. b Feb 1887; Eddie F. b. May 1889; Thomas Parr b. Jan 1892; Margurite b May 1894; Annie b. July 1896; and Marie b June 1897. I am most eager to contact any descendants of the Parr/Campbell family. I do wish I knew something about the circumstances between E. Neville Vaughn and Sarah Parr but I do not. Sarah Parr's mother is actually the person I am most interested in at present. She was Sarah Smith, wife of Thomas W. Parr (son of William Parr), and d/o George W. Smith and wife Maria Freeman of Culpeper CO., VA.Her home and that of Thomas Parr was located at Brandy Station in Culpeper, and when the War between the States began, Sarah took her family to Amherst to be near other relatives. It is thought from correspondence between her and friends that she died in childbirth sometime during the mid 1860's. Now the interesting item regarding the Green surname is that Thomas W. Parr, after his wife Sarah Smith died, married a second time to Rebecca Green on 28 January 1873. Perhaps even more interesting is that Thomas W. Parr moved to McLennan County, Texas. My search has been for Sarah Smith's burial site in Amherst CO. I believe she would have been living near William Parr in what the census records denote as the Pedlar Twp. Her grave is probably unmarked. Any information relative to Sarah Smith Parr, first wife of Thomas W. Parr is sought. I regret this gives you no further information regarding Neville Vaughn. 3. Posted on: Amherst County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Amherst/10803 Surname: Parr, Vaughan, Green ------------------------- My great uncle, Eugene Neville Vaughan, is recorded in the Amherst Co marriage register #3 (1870-1890)for a marriage license 15 Aug 1884 to Sallie F. Parr, age 21, b. Amherst Co., dau of Thomas W. and S. F. Parr. In talking with family members many years ago, no one seemed to know anything about this. Whether the marriage took place or not is unknown. In fact much about my great uncle is unknown as family members were reluctant to even discuss him. Eugene was in Corpus Christi, TX in the very early 1900's, perhaps around 1905. He also lived in Arkansas, whereabouts unknown. It's believed he married a woman whose name was Green!!! That family was in Kentucky--where, unknown. Eugene died in Gulfport, MS in 1927. The birth certificate states that next of kin was unknown. The birth certificate was signed by his brother, who was a doctor. The operative word seems to be unknown. This may not be of any help to you other than the marriage intent and a possible place in Texas to search. If by any chance you do come across anything on the Parr-Vaughan possible marriage, please post the information or email me. I'd be extremely grateful for any information regarding this elusive great-uncle. David Hoffman dvhoffman@hotmail.com

Posted on: Amherst County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Amherst/10800 Surname: Parr, Smith, Campbell, Green ------------------------- Searching for family of Thomas Parr and wife Sarah Smith Parr, known to have lived in Amherst in early 1860's. Sarah most likely died during childbirth before 1870. Children were Smith Parr, Sarah Parr, Lilly, and Lara, and perhaps others whose descendants may still live in the area. Would very much like to find burial place of Sarah Smith Parr. Thomas Parr married a second wife, Rebecca Green, and probably moved to Texas. Dau Sarah is thought to have married a Campbell. Need information on Sarah Smith Parr and descendants to complete family history. Will exchange information.

    3. Posted on: Amherst County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Amherst/10789 Surname: ------------------------- Chuck, Amherst County was not created until Dec 1761. Amherst Co. was taken from Albemarle County. Albemarle Co. was created 1744 from Goochland County. If William Hezekiah Davis was born ca. 1720 you might need to look in the Goochland Co. records, also in Albemarle Co. records. I do not know where Masons Depot is, but if it is now in Amherst Co., and Wm. Hezekiah Davis was born there, the county lines might have changed. There are alot of Davis/Davies' listed in the Amherst County deeds, but there is no Hezekiah Davis listed between 1761 to 1807. Betty
