I don't need to see it but will list him as succeeding David Garland who was there for part of 1805. I plan on being at the courthouse in a few weeks so I will look up a will in 1806 just to see the signature. Thanks for the input Doug Burnett ACHS '59

Wright of Gilmer County, West Virginia, (place of death), who was the son of Charles Wright of Decatur County, Indiana, and Mary (Eubank) Wright and grandson of William Wright, Sr., (Bedford County, Virginia) and _____ (_____) Wright. William S. Wright was born on Apr 22, 1812, at Amherst County, Virginia, married Anne Tomlinson on Feb 17, 1834, at Amherst County, Virginia, resided in Amherst and Rockbridge and Barbour Counties, Virginia, and Gilmer County, West Virginia, where he died on Sep 20 or 22, 1887. The children of 1887 William S. Wright and Anne (Tomlinson) Wright included the following: 1. Charles Wright, born c. 1835 at Virginia, 2. John W. Wright, born on Oct 26, 1836, at Amherst County or Rockbridge County, Virginia, 3. Ambrose Eubank Wright, born on Sep 23, 1839, at Amherst or Rockbridge County, Virginia, 4. Richard Wright, born c. 1843 at Virginia, 5. Nancy J. Wright, born c. 1845 at Virginia, 6. Elizabeth (Wright) Keith, born c. 1846 at Rockbridge County, Virginia, 7. Stewart Wright, born on Jan 1, 1850, at Barbour or Gilmer County, Virginia, and 8. Mickelberry Wright, born on Oct 7, 1855, at Virginia. Recent tracing of a Wright family whose descendant matches the Y-DNA of a descendant of this William Wright, Sr., (Bedford County, Virginia) family indicates that William Wright, Sr., may be connected to Wright families from Orange County, Virginia, but further research is still required to confirm that connection. I would be happy to exchange information on this Wright line with you and other interested researchers. Best wishes, Robert N. HI Chuck FGS is the FLorida Genealogical Conf that was held there at the Marriott just past the Navy Personnal Office up there. I have fogotten the road but the hotel area was nice. I did 4 years Air Force(Mil) and 36 years Navy(Civ) all here at Cape Canaveral. Re your visit to the courthouse in Amherst. There is always discussions on the list about how to get along etc with the folks in the courthouse. My wife and I have taken the tact that better to work with than expect. We have found some very old documents on her family down at Farmville in the courthouse so we have worked with the clerk and the archivist(spelling?) at the Library of Virginia and got the approved archival sleeves to hold documents. We now take those with us and with the clerks permission when we find some of our family history in old documents we place them in the sleeves and back in the files to protect them for our kids. This seem to make more sense than taking candy and oranges. Have a great trip Doug

Hi A.T. My name is Chuck Scott and I am currently living in Panama City Beach Florida. My family also is from Amherst, listed as early settlers. My GGG Grandfather Isaac Scott was born there Nov. 1765. I have found my family from 1765 forward to modern times, but can't seem to find Isaac's father. Are there some records available up there that would help me research my family? I have reached a dead end. I'm sure I have relatives that fought for the CSA, but they also fought the English in 1776 and 1812 as well as anybody else that cared to step on a Scotsman's property. Thanks for any help. Hello Sandi, William Angus born about 1790 (the 1860 census says b. 1781), died before 1870. The 1860 census lists him in Amherst Co VA. He was the son of William Angus, who was a Revolutionary War Veteran, who died before 1806, and Elizabeth Martin. William Angus b. about 1790 married to Elizabeth FULCHER, married 5-29-1810 Amherst Co VA, daughter of John Fulcher and Elizabeth Huckstep, her marriage bond was signed by James Fulcher. Elizabeth Fulcher was born abt 1796 and died after 1870. I have 7 kids listed for them: Martha Agnes; William Jr.; Mary; Sarah; Elizabeth; Jane; Philip. William Angus, Jr b. 1838 d. before 1900, married Lucy Ann Cash, d/o James T. Cash and Henrietta Mays. The above listed information came to me from various researchers sharing their own information. I am not personally related to this family, but I will now explain why I am interested in the ANGUS family in Temperance, VA. My own ancestor is Henry W. Campbell b. 1855 at Temperance, VA. He left the area after 1882 and moved to Texas, then as of the 1900 census he was at Sunray, Oklahoma, it what would later become Stephens Co OK. His daughter Beulah Lee Campbell married a man named Elmer Ernest BATES, the son of ANGUS Bates, and Mary ANGUS. In the 1900 census this Elmer Ernest Bates is listed in the household of Henry W. Campbell as COUSIN, at that point Beulah and Elmer were not yet married. The death certificate of Elmer E. Bates, in Dallas, TX states his mother was Mary ANGUS born in VIRGINIA. This situation has caused me to believe that Elmer E. Bates, through his mother, could be related slightly to my ancestor Henry W. Campbell. Henry W. Campbell is the son of George T. Campbell b. 1824 d. 1856, and the father of George T. Campbell has never been proved. According to family trees and unsubstantiated stories, George T. Campbell is the son of Cornelius Campbell and Catherine Campbell. But since there is no proof of that, I was hoping perhaps this BATES and ANGUS connection might throw some light onto the Campbell ancestry. I know there is also the BATES name in Amherst Co VA, and it could be that the parents of Elmer E. Bates are both from the Amherst Co VA area originally.
