Wanda, Thanks for contacting me... it is always a pleasure to hear from kin-folk, even though we are distant and have never met. I have seen/read some of your posted queries on various message boards, but at this very moment I do not remember the specifics of your research. Regarding the Virginia/Tennessee Angus families: I have a fairly extensive data base, starting with our GGGGG grandfather William Angus, born 1750 in Scotland, and emigrated to America in 1774, settling in Amherst County, Virginia. My Angus Ancestry Lineage is: William Angus Sr., James Angus, Gustavus Angus Sr., Gustavus Angus Jr., Samuel David Angus, and Leslie Flournoy (Angus) English. So, what I will tell you at this juncture, let know the specific missing links in your research, or any other specific ancestry items interest. I will gladly share my data base ( alI or a portion thereof), but I will need your postal mailing address, because I cannot send my data base to you by E-mail. Again, thanks for contacting me. To "timas" - My name is Peter Parrish ([email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) ). I am attempting to find the Staples widow named Malinda (maiden name unknown) who re-married after 1850. I would very much appreciate any information from your cousin's work - or your own - about her Staples husband. She outlived her second husband Willis Redmond Parrish and as far as I know died in Louisa county circa 1880. I would be happy at anything you might tell me as I have wondered about her for about 20 years! Why is it that the mysteries of more recent times are such a challenge? Thank you very much for whatever you might tell me, a distracting question it may be. Peter Parrish, GGGrandson of WRP

I have done some research on the Tooley, Tuley, Tully family in Amherst County, VA. I'm an indirect relative. Amherst Co. was formed in 1761 from Albemarle Co. Charles and James Tuley had property in Amherst Co. at the time it was formed. James and Elizabeth Tuley sell land in 1786 in Amherst Co. which they had received by patent in 1747. This may be the same James who appears on land records as James Tuley Sr. & Judey in 1773 and James & Judy C. Tuley in 1779 where in both cases it says of Albemarle Co. VA. Elizabeth Tooley widow of Charles Tooley in 1800 releases rights of 100 acres to John Tooley son & heir of Charles Tooley. The following comes from a land record index, (I believe I changed the spelling on some of these for my own convenience.) Year Name Book Page 1762 Tuley, James A 41 1763 Tuley, James A 116 1771 Tuley, James C 394 1772 Tuley, Charles C 392 1772 Tuley, James C 448 1772 Tuley, John C 267 1773 Tuley, James D 62 1774 Tuley, James D 217 1775 Tuley, John D 256 1776 Tuley, Charles C 434 (could be book D) 1776 Tuley, John D 359 1777 Tuley, John D 417 1779 Tuley, James E 204 1786 Tuley, James F 177 1791 Tuley, John F 619 1798 Tuley, William H 450 1800 Tuley, John I 222 (This is the son of Charles) Also of interest are the Tax Records which start in 1782. Elizabeth Tooley appears on these records in 1782, 1784, & 1786. My guess is that Charles had already passed away as he never appears on any Tax records. Elizabeth has 1 slave, horses and cattle. James Tooley is in the 1783, 1785 and 1786 Tax records with slaves, horses, and cattle. 1786 is when he sells his land in Amherst Co. and then we hear nothing more of him. John Tooley Sr. is in the Tax records from 1783 thru 1798. John Tooley Jr. (who later becomes Sr.) is in the tax records from 1782 thru 1818. The next John Jr. is in the Tax records in 1805 only. Also in 1805 appears Tandy Tooley who stays until 1826. Tandy's son John md. Nancy Hogue my 2nd great grandaunt. I hope this may be helpful. Gary W. Hi Fern, Ancestry provides a description of their databases on their site. The "Census of Pensioners" is one of two Chapters (the other is "Index to States") for the "Revolutionary War Pensioner Census, 1841" Database. According to the description given, the database is simply a compilation of the data on the Revolutionary War pensioners gathered from the 1840 census returns. (Census takers that year obtained the names and ages of the individuals in each household who served in the Revolutionary War or provided other miliitary services.) So, the bottom line is that there is no publication called "Census of Pensioners" that you can buy. You simply have to find the 1840 census pages for your ancestors and it will show on the census page the information provided in the ancestry database. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BAC.2ACE/1029.1.2.2.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Dear Joyce, Turkey Mountain Road (Va State Route 610) runs about aix miles from the west side of Clifford, VA in a westerly direction. Approximately 3 miles west of Clifford, on the north side of Turkey Mountain Road lies Turkey Mountain itself (not a large mountain, but more of a low rise of land). Joshua (3) HUDSON acquired most of the land running from the top of Turkey Mountain, down the south side, and across Turkey Mountain Road. At his death (1799-1801), he was a widower, and through his will required the sale disposal of nearly all of the land. His son, Rush (4) Sr, purchased a portion of it and one or more sons may have purchased small parcels (not clear). At present none of the land coming down the side of Turkey Mountain is owned by HUDSONs. One farm on the south side of Turkey Mountain Road is still within the HUDSON family, but all of its rrmaining structures were built since about 1890. The Shelton HUDSON Cemetery where there are four marked stones and 60-70 unmarked broke! n field stones) lies at 79 deg.-4 min-5 sec. west Longitude, and 37 deg.-39 min.-6 sec. north latitude.on private property, and access is by permission only. The HUDSONs who gather each August for a reunion at Clifford are able to visit and maintain the old cemetery. Other than the cemetery itself, there are no other sites or structures extant from before the late 1890s. I hope that this helps you in our research. Sincerely, John W. I just thought I would look up Samuel to see if I could find his will but the only thing that I can find is where he and Hanna bought some land and, 475 acres, 10Jun1775. He is listed in the book 13 times but mostly as adjoining property that was sold. I just found his will, written Jan.30, 1799, probated Jan. 20, 1800. It list his children as; George, Lucy, Jesse, Martha, Betheniah, Samuel H., and John. Does this look like the correct Samuel?

If so, I wonder if he would be willing to join the Phillips Worldwide DNA project which is currectly being conducted at familytreedna.com. DNA analysis for genealogical purposes works very successfully on straight line male descendants. My Phillips family also lived in Amherst County and 2 male Phillips cousins of mine have joined the project and been tested. Although they are only very distantly related (7th cousins, as nearly as we can figure), they matched perfectly on 25 markers. It would be very interesting to see if your Phillips family was related to my Phillips family. Sincerely, Nancy Kiser

You may have this already-not sure when this was posted but I just pulled it up.
Thanks so much for posting this. I visited the webpage and also the map that goes with it. This is the EXACT area that my Campbell and Thompson and Wright families lived at, in the 1850 to 1890 time frame. 1. George T. Campbell 1824-1856, married Eady Burcher Wright, d/o Jesse Wright and Elizabeth Campbell. George died young and left Eady on a Farm in Temperance, which is described as "Indian Creek Land". She was living there in the 1880 census, and she split the land among her kids not much later. 2. Edward S. Campbell, married Beheathland Thompson, Edward died in the Civil War in 1862, and left his widow to raise the children in Temperance. Henry W. Campbell b. 1855, s/o George and Eady, most likely grew up near to Nancy Jane Campbell, the daughter of Edward and Beheathland, and when they grew up Henry married Nancy, they were not cousins, but they were both from the same Campbell family. 3. James Thompson, III b. 1803, he also lived in Temperance, he was the father of Beheathland Thomspon Campbell, and in 1870 census he is living next door to his widowed daughter in Temperance, VA. 4. Jesse Wright, he married Elizabeth Campbell, d/o Capt. George T. Campbell, and he also lived in the Temperance area. There is an old cemetery, which was once called the Old Wright Burial Ground, which later became known as the Wheeler Cemetery, and many of these families are buried there. Of all the people I have mentioned here, who are all my ancestors, I can only tell you ONE of them where they are buried at. The man who died in the Civil War is buried in Charleston, SC. The others are buried here and there in the Temperance area, but perhaps the grave stones and records do not survive to tell the story of exactly where they are buired at.
