    3. My gggggrandfather Schuyler Hamilton was born 1787 in Amherst county. I joined the Hamilton Family DNA project a couple of years ago. However, I have only had one match and he does not know his background beyond 1880. I would love to see some more Hamilton males with roots to Amherst county join the project. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BAC.2ACE/1379 Message Board Post: Hello board, As I am sure some of you know, there is a new kid on the block with regard to genealogical research - surname DNA projects. I have recently gotten involved in the Phillips Worldwide DNA project which is being conducted at familytreedna.com. Two male Phillips cousins of mine got tested and matched perfectly on 25 out of 25 markers, although they are only very distantly related - about 6th or 7th cousins, as far as I can tell. In fact, we were not certain they were related before they took the test. I know that there were 12 different Phillips families on the first (reconstructed) Amherst County census of 1782, and I would love to find out whether all of these Phillips families were related. If straight line male descendants of those 12 families would agree to be tested, we could figure this out. The DNA test is painless and only involves swabbing the inside of the cheek with a special toothbrush or scraper. The identity of the participant is kept confidential. If you know any straight line male descendants of the early Phillips families of Amherst County, VA, please contact me. Sincerely, Nancy Kiser PS - There is also a Phelps DNA project being conducted, and it has proven that the Phelps and Phillips of Amherst County were NOT related.

    3. The comment about John Ray being a Baptist caught my eye because my grandfather E.D. Wilmer was a Baptist minister in the same area but much, much later -- about a century. If memory serves, the Methodist movement, originally an effort to reform the Anglican Church, was in full swing in the 1780s in America. The Baptist revival movement that swept the south came later. No doubt, some history on these religious movements would provide many of us with good background information to set family events in context. Ann

That James Pearce b 1748 was too late to have a dau of marriagable age for our Pearce WADE, who was married and living in Goochland/Albemarle by 1748. His wife was Mary Ballenger, dau of Joseph Ballenger whose first land in Goochland was in 1729. I have no possible given names for a possible Pearce woman who married a Wade man, as his parents have been very elusive, although there are trees online claiming at least four different sets of parents for him, but with absolutely no sources or proof given of any kind, so my hunt continues. Perhaps you have an ancestor of this James Pearce b 1748 of the east/central area of VA very early 1700s? Thanks again. Aileen in Wa ______________________________
