I certainly do appoligize. This was not meant for the Amherst List. I was fwd to other people on addy list and must have hit the wrong name. It will not happen again. I am truly sorry and definitely do know better. Gloria Joe Deaver wrote: First and only warning. This list is specifically for the purpose of discussing Amherst County, VA genealogy and history. WHY DO you question your Quest for knowledge??? The Greatest Genealogical Tool in existence is; <ASK & ANSWER QUESTIONS SOMEONE KNOWS> I Know that OUR Amherst & Nelson County Va. Ancestors Married in their Circle, IT goes like this; I was at A Campbell reunion in Nelson County a few YEARS ago, one of my Cousins From Gloucester Va. was telling of an experence, This ole BOY asked one of em mountain Boys, How come YA,LL mary so many Cousins, at ole Campbell BOY answered, wall, we omly got to the Barn tha Corn field & to Church so we NEVA meet no one but Cousins. NOW, I was raised up in Amherst County, Va. & now live in Richmond Va and this may not be just the answer that you were looking for_____BUT it Could likely be THE REASON that many of those Marriages took place. NOW I am sure some expert will have a better answer, BUT is it more practical. CUZ A T <[email protected]>
Do the Amherst Volumes have a timeline for Vol I and Vol II? Or do they not follow chronologically? Are they the county "Heritage" books or a specific author... I may have missed the origin of them, so forgive me if I am behind the times here. Do they have a surname index? If so, are page #s they are on listed also? This kind of information would help to make a decision as to buy one of them or not. Wade and Ballenger would be my most prominent surnames there. Thanks, Aileen in WA

Subject: FW: Three Sick Men The alcoholic, the chain smoker and the homosexual: Three desperately ill men met with their doctor one day to discuss their options. One was an Alcoholic, one was a Chain-Smoker, and one was a Homosexual. Addressing all three of them, the doctor said, "If any of you indulge in your vices one more time, you will surely die." The three men left the doctor's office, each convinced that he would NEVER EVER AGAIN indulge himself in his vice. While walking toward the subway for their return trip to the suburbs, they passed a bar. The Alcoholic, hearing the loud music and smelling the ale, could not stop himself. His buddies accompanied him into the bar where he had a shot of whiskey. No sooner had he replaced the shot glass on the bar, he fell off his stool, stone cold dead. His two companions, somewhat shaken, left the bar, realizing how seriously they must take the doctor's words. As they walked along, they came upon a cigarette butt lying on the ground, still burning. The Homosexual looked at the Chain-Smoker and said, "You know if you bend over to pick that up, we're both dead." Is there any mention in the book about Stephen Robinson, son of John Robinson and Lucy Smith, or Judith( may be Juda) Guttery. I believe her father was William Guttery, and that she had at least one brother, Nathaniel, who served in the Rev. War, and moved to Kentucky. Karen Alexander
FOR BARBRA, Amherst County Heritage Book VOL 1 Has an Article abt TUCKER FAMILY <John S Tucker>entered the County Before 1776> & one ABT Ralph Tucker. A T
Does this book mention Gilpins or Tuckers? Thanks, Barbara
Sue, Just read your reply to Doug....... Noticed you mentioned the surname of ROBINSON. Could you please tell me if they are the same Robinsons that were in VA in the very early part of the 1700's. One of my ancestors built the frame home for James Madison's father. A Robinson female married Alexander Robertson who was the father of my gggg Grandfather Judge Geo. Robertson. Do any of these people ring a bell or two???? Sincerely, Fern P.S. Our temps have been in the three digits for over a week where I live - can you beat that? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sue Snyder" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, July 18, 2006 10:26 AM Subject: Re: [VAAMHERS] Re: Amherst Vol 1 > O.
