Mary Ann We have some real Surnames in Common, Sterling May, Captain Langford (also know as Lankford) of 1812 Humphreys County and his tax list of My John Johnson, son of Hudson Johnston and wife Agnes. Hudson Johnston died in 1828 Dickson County Tn. wife Agness died in 1848 Dickson County Tn. The Reverend Thomas Murrell and Hudson Johnston traveled together from Henry County Va 1776-1780, Rev. Thomas Murrell left in 1780 and came back in 1782 re married the Widow of James Johnson ( who Hudson lived with in 1778) Hudson Johnston left with Numerous other Families to what as then Washington County NC, Hudson Johnston lands are in what is now Hawkins County Tn. They both left there and went to Williamson County Tn where we know Reverend Thomas Murrell's two brother's were at. Hudson Johnston left Williamson County in 1803 to Move to Barton's Creek in what was then Stewart County, by the time he gets to Barton's Creek it is now Dickson County Tn. Hudson Johnston died there in 1828. His wife Agniss Johnston died in 1843, her will was administered by Thomas Murrell the son of Rev. Thomas Murrell who also moved in 1806 to Dickson County and died there. Mary Polly Johnson daughter of Hudson and Agniss Johnston married first Joel Shropshire and he passed away in Dickson County, Mary Polly Johnson Shropshire married on Sterling May and moved to Arkansas Joel Shropshire's father died on Rockfish River in in lands that were in Amherst County that went into Nelson County. His father was Seymore Samier Shropshire. With the Name Cornelius Murrell there is no doubt in my mind you Come of this Thomas Murrell of Byrd Creek or one of his Kinsman, first Murrell in the Colonies is his Father William Murrell whose lands were first recorded in Surry County ( which changed numerous time with Parish Lin Changes and County Line Changes) The Amherst Lines them selves are a Challenge to figure out what County one needs to Look for Deeds and Wills at. I will send you later more information in our Files on Your Murrell or Murrill, Murril lines I am off to work. reverend Thomas Murrell's lines come off Byrd Creek as doed my Conecting DNA Johnson's, my Matlock lines, my Mayo lines and several other inter connecting lines of Hatcher, Burton, Farmer, Trent, Osborn. Tony ----- Original Message ----- From: lankford<mailto:[email protected]> To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, September 23, 2006 7:26 AM Subject: Murrell Hi Tony I though you might give me a lead or two. I am researching Lankford's from the Virginia area. Facts: Marriage of B. Murrell 27 Feb 1809 to Edward Lunkford(should be Lankford), Nelson County. They were in the Amherst then Nelson county census than showed up in Indiana census in 1840. I know little about her except on her tombstone she is listed as Elizabeth. She died in 1847 and judging from the dates on her stone ? she would have been born 20 Aug 1776. I know they left Virginia in Nov. of 1837 going to Indiana with family, friends and classmates of one of her sons. He bought land in Vigo County Indiana. It is right across the line from Edgar county and I find a Cornelius Murrell there in 1850. He was in his latter years 78 and living with him was Polly Ingles 45. Elizabeth and Edward named their oldest son Cornelius M and the second son William M. for three generations the M was carried as a second name. Murrell? Maybe brother to Elizabeth? His estimated birth date would be abt 1772. I have never found a reference to the M. as Murrell or anything else in any legal documents. They list Buckingham Va as birthplace. That is about all I can find about her or him. MaryAnn in Florida Researching Lankford, Sterling, Newby and related families. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Warwick Co was consolidated into the City of NewPort News in the 1960's so it is no longer a county. However, by doing a Google search: Virginia History-Warwick County I also learned that in 1704 the Wills name was listed as one of the prominent families in that shire of Va. at the time. Check it out. Jim

Forwarded Message from the Bedford List with regard to every professional or amateur genealogist: of greatest interest to all: <snip>The petition can be signed at: http://www.petitiononline.com/FGS2006 In late July, the National Archives announced they were planning to cut back the hours of the Washington DC area facilities of the archives. This would eliminate all evening and Saturday hours and greatly harm the ability of the average genealogist to access the records. For full details, see http://www.archives.gov/press/press-releases/2006/nr06-125.html While the Archivist of the United States was at the FGS conference he reported that they had received very little feedback from the country's genealogists asking for reconsideration. He was also presented with a request from the chair of the FGS Records Preservation Committee to consider some alternatives and a petition was started to allow genealogists to express their disagreement with the changes and to endorse alternatives that will allow the evening and Saturday hours to continue. You can see more details about that in Dick Eastman's weekly newsletter at: http://blog.eogn.com/eastmans_online_genealogy/2006/09/quick_please_jo.html The petition can be signed at: http://www.petitiononline.com/FGS2006 I would encourage each of you, as board members of The USGenWeb Project to use your influence to publicize this information throughout the project. Note that the deadline for receiving comments on the proposed changes by the archives is September 9, so there isn't much time. And I suspect that if they succeed in reducing the Washington hours, the regional archives will be soon to follow. I appreciate all that each of you do in support of the project membership and all genealogists with US ancestry. I believe that a little effort in support of this effort by FGS will pay off long term in enhancing our ability to deliver free information to our clients - genealogists everywhere.
