I know it is him because of the age of the census . It was 49 and my uncle was born in 1881 in Russell Co.Va.my family knew he lived in that area but if they knew he was in this Colony they didn't tell my Daddy. He would come back to Russell Co occasionally and brag about the "Big House" he lived in, so I guess this was the place. I don't know how to go about getting information from this place. Can anyone give me a number or email address. Thank you in advance

    3. Although I will review the marriage bond the next time I return to Amherst court house, I suspect that the consent was given by "Caty or Catherine" Campbell, wife of George Campbell and mother of Mary Campbell - instead of Catron Cammel. The John Cartwright that provided surety was married to Margaret Patterson, an obvious relative to Alexander Patterson that married this Mary Campbell. 1. Re: [VAAMHERS] Family Cemetery in Riverville - any suggestions?
    2. Lori: We have conversed before,I am a decendant of Charles W.Worley, and I believe your line was Peter Worley, his brother. However here goes on Richard R.Worley, and your search for graveyards in Amherst County,Virginia around Rivervile,I have been able to locate two(2)sites near Rivervile, but none in the small town, One is located about six(6)miles east of Amherst,Va.on U.S.Route 60,turn turn right off of Rt.60 onto State Route 624 past Morriss-Watts Cemetery here are the names that have headstones;Lillie W.Williams 1906-1955,James M.Worley 1887-1952,Robert C.Worley 1906-1969,Willie J.Worley 1880-1967,Markers without names 1913;1920;1922. Another Worley Graveyard is located in the same general area about four(4)miles east of Amherst,Virginia on State Route 603 and is about 200 yards to the graveyard.Worleys listed as buried there are:Annie Mae Worley May 13,1913-April 15,1959,Tommie Worley June 10,1904-Nov.25,1971,there is also a Charles B.Hayslett buried there dated on his marker were October 27,1954-January 4,1956. There are several Worleys buried in the Cemetery located at Mineral Springs Baptist Church, which is located on U.S.Route 60 about 8-9 miles east of the Town of Amherst,Virginia on State Route 626 2-3 miles over the Amherst-Nelson County line. You would turn left off of Rt.60 onto 626,and a brick country church would be on your right, with five(5) unmarked graves. The following Worley's are buried there;Arthur E.Worley,October 18,1925-January 18,1982;Charley Watts Worley,1912-1984,Edward A.Worley January 23,1872-June 8,1957,Fannie Lottie Worley 1912-1984,Hubert Worley August 8,1939-December 12,1980,J.Dewey Worley June27,1899-July 16,1965,Mable Jones Worley February 26,1900-August 28,1966. These are the only ones I could locate at this time, but if I run across any more I will let you know, and when I am in Lynchburg,Va.I will go by the newspaper office and get a copy of Richard R.Worley's obituary. For conformation these cemetaries and names are located in Gravestone Inscriptions In Amherst County,Virginia by the Amherst County Museum, and Historical Society. One last question what kin is Richard R.to you I have not run across him in any of my searches. Hope this helps, Best Wishes Ron Worley,Roanoke,Virginia [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected])

Is anyone out there living in or near Riverville, and if you are, could you please kindly tell me who I could contact to find out if there is a Worley family cemetery in the area? 2. I believe there was some discussion awhile back re the Monacans of Amherst County area. Below is what appears to be their official Nation website with a very interesting history, and if your ancestors there were named Hughes, Evans, Johns, among others, they married Native women. To know of the history of a county from different points of view is to know the life and times of our ancestors, and the historical aspect of all this genealogy is what fascinates me.
