Also if JOhn D Hill is the cousin of Madison, HOW?? I have searched for several years for the connection, my Hills migrated to Morgan Co and FLoyd Co Ky. Supposedly a William Hill came to Floyd Co with Daniel Boone in 1765 or thereabouts. This William is proposed as the father or grandfather of the above Hills. I would appreciated any light you could shed on it. Sharon Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Would you have a copy of or info on the document listing Nancy Day as wife of John Hill? I suspect this is the same John Hill, wife Nancy, of Williamson Co TN who gave a POA to Madison Hill of Amherst Co 1803. It may be John's second marriage. John named his oldest son John William Madison Hill and named two daughters Elizabeth and Susanna, names of John's suspected sister and mother. I'll be happy to share the info on John's family if you want. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. CUZ BARB THANKS to CUZ Holly AT the Amherst County Muesum I am onto the Right Road CUZ A T <atpowelljr@aol.com> The poorhouse/almshouse was on what is today Poor House Road, in the Temperance district. Poor house and Alms house are essentially the same thing, just different ways of referring to it. Hope this helps! Holly
Look in Amherst County Heritage Book, Volume II, page 50 you will see a story on Poor House Farm. It is located in the old community of Monitor on the north side of US Rt. 60. I've asked around and still don't know anything of Mayflower. I suppose there could be another Poor House in another section of Amherst County. Keep asking. Marlene Mays Fitzgerald P. O. I tried to research about Norfolk VA Alms House.Very little is available.Did you browse for Virginia's Poor Houses? I did find some site and emailed a Director who had other information but not what I needed. I was not aware of a Poor House in Amherst. I have done a lot of research in the Amherst, Orange County area. Ask the Amherst County research Library. They did research for me beyond the norm. BARB In a message dated 1/22/2009 12:22:20 A.M.
