There were early landowners in the 1700's, but the name Hurt does not appear in any census after 1870, so they all appear to have left. My own ancestor, Wm. F. Hurt, was born about 1816 and married Martha Barden in 1838. She was the daughter of Thomas Barden and Mary Morris. Hughes Perrin witnessed their marriage; he was married to an Elizabeth Hurt, possibly a sibling of Wm. F. I suspect most Hurts were related, so I'd like to know the family trees of other Hurts in Amelia. Many thanks!
