My data relate to Phillip Ludwell, Phillip Ludwell II, and Phillip Ludwell III of England and Virginia. Phillip Ludwell III had no sons and the family name expired with him prior to 1740. Phillip the first immigrated from England prior to 1650. He was the son of Thomas Ludwell and Jane Cottington. It is highly probable that James Ludwell was a descendant of the same British family at a later time. The Ludwell family is listed in the IGI. Re Amelia County, Va.
