    1. [VAAMELIA-L] City Shore, VA, Furniture Question
    2. tc Evans
    3. I know this may seem like and odd question but...here goes. My wife's Hightower family is from Amelia and Richmond counties. While looking at an old piece of furniture that has been handed down through the generations this weekend I came upon a label that says "Nicholson Sectional, City Shore, VA". No one in the family seems to know quiet exactly where this piece of furniture came from but all we can sumise is that it must have come through the Hightower side. The problem is that I cannot find a City Shore, VA on any map. The last family member in VA was between 1750-1800 so maybe this town has changed it's name? I'd like to try and find some type of verification that this indeed did come down from that side of the family but I don't know where to begin. Any one have any clues? I know this isn't technically a genealogical question but any help would be greatly appreciated. 2. Margaret Loos
    3. Posted on: Amelia County Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Amelia?read=443 Surname: Cadwell ------------------------- By "living in the country" do you meet "living in the United States" or "living in rural areas"? I can answer "yes" to the former and "sometimes" to the later. My great grandfather William H. Cadwell of New Guilford, Conn., was in the Civil War. He and his family later moved to Washington Territory. Your query is not specific, but I would love to discuss details with anyone researching Cadwells--particularly MY Cadwells--since I am unable to trace this family past William's grandfather Abraham Cadwell. There were many Cadwells in Connecticut at that time, but I can't put little Abe in a family!

Posted on: Amelia County Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Amelia?read=439 Surname: Foster, Jeter ------------------------- I was in Amelia Co. today searching for cemetaries my self. I was looking for Fosters. There is one rather large cemetary at the Presbyterian church in the town of Amelia. That was the only one I managed to locate. It wasn't old enough for what I was looking for. You may have some success around the Jetersville area. If anyone has any info on other cemetaries that may contain Fosters, please let me know. These would probably be graves from the 1700's. Thanks. By the way, Amelia is an absolutly gorgeous county. Beautiful homes, wonderful country side. Bill

    3. Posted on: Amelia County Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Amelia?read=429 Surname: CRADDOCK ------------------------- I am seeking information on the parents and siblings of Thomas Elmore Craddock, born 1781 somewhere in Virginia. By 1808, he was in Warren Co., KY., marrying Hannah Cook. It has been reported to me that Thomas had moved to KY from VA with his brothers and their wives. The names of William and Edward or Edmond have been suggested as the names of his brothers. The name of their father has also been suggested as being William or Edmond/Edward. Thomas and Hannah moved to Madison Co., Missouri about 1816, where they raised their family. It has been reported that other Craddock relatives moved from KY to MO. After Hannah Cook Craddock died, Thomas, several of his grown children, and some grandchildren, and possibly other Craddock relatives, travelled by wagon train to California. Thomas died there in Yuba Co., in 1869. I have been told that a number of Amelia Co., Virginia Craddocks moved from there Warren and Barren Co., KY. Someone else has told me that there was a Robert Craddock born 1842 in Amelia Co., VA and died about 1835 in Warren Co., Kentucky. I'd like to find more about him, to see if he was related. If anyone has any tips or suggestions, please write me directly and post to the forum. Thanks, Barbara
