Still looking for info on the following Hoods: Chasteen/Justinian Hood - born abt 1800; Hallie Pleasant Hood - born abt 1895(?); Gardner and Permelia Hood. All of these Hoods came from Amelia/Dinwiddie Counties in VA. Chasteen and Hallie, possibly siblings, moved to Crittenden County, KY. Chasteen/Justinian Hood was in Caldwell County, KY, in the Shady Grove Area, by 1828. Names used in both Hallie's and Chasteen's families include Pleasant, Ridley, Gardner, William, James, Chastine/Chasteen, Mary Jane, and Martha Ann. Who were these people's parents? Thanks. Dawnene

The only information we have is the house is still standing. It belonged to John A Chappell, who served in Co A, 14th Virginia Infantry, CSA. I have some pictures of the grave and home, that were sent to me by the new family who bought the old place. They want to put a small Chappell museum there. There are not Chappell family, but they did have members of family who also served in the Virginia Infrantry. Does this fit in with any of your research? Hi Von, Curious about your Bracketts in VA--how far back do you have? I was told by someone that my John Owen married a Sarah Brackett daughter of a Colonel Brackett ca 1718. I think Sarah had a sister Phoebe. No proof was given and I've never seen the connection again. There were apparently a lot of John Owens in VA at that time & I'm not sure how the writer determined that it was my John Owen... John Owen b 1676 Henrico Co, m. Posted on: Amelia County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Amelia/462 Surname: CARTER ------------------------- I have come across some family papers that list my g-g-grandfather, William R. Carter of Amelia County, Virginia (1809 - 1886), as "Jr." or "Junior." I know for a fact that William's father was John Carter (1775 - 1852). John Carter moved to Amelia County between 1810 and 1820 according to the Censuses of the time; however, he was doing business in Amelia as early as 1803. He is listed on one document as "John Carter of the County of Cumberland." However, he is neither listed in Amelia or Cumberland on the 1810 Census. There does appear a John Carter on the 1810 Census in Prince Edward County who fits John's description very well. Since William R. Carter is listed as "William R. Carter JR.," and his father was NOT named William, this leads me to believe that perhaps John's father, William R.'s grandfather, was named William. There IS a William Carter Sr. listed on the 1810 Census in Prince Edward County who is married in a house without children and both he and his wife are over the age of 45. This William Carter Sr. has a son, William Carter Jr. who also lives in Prince Edward County with his wife, and one son and three daughters (all under the age of 10). In 1796, both William Sr. and Jr. can be found as jurors in Prince Edward County courtrooms. There is also a Wm. Carter listed as the head of "8 white souls" in 1785. DOES ANYBODY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS WILLIAM CARTER OF PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY???? Looking for birth date, death date, marriage date, spouse, parents, children - ANYTHING. Any information appreciated. I just wanted to take this time to apologize to everyone for how far behind I have fallen with the Archives. This has been one heck of a summer :) But it's been fun, just extremely busy. I have updated the WV counties with files recieved during July, so those are already online for you to see. I am now working on the Virginia Counties. The first update I do will be for files rcvd in July, so if you've sent a file in August, it won't be on this update. I need to finish one month before I begin on another. My youngest just started kindergarten and I haven't started back to work yet, so next week I plan to spend getting everything all caught up. Assuming nothing goes wrong, I should have time to get it all done. Thank you all for your patience with me :) Also, I have inherited three new counties in Virginia and will begin working on those web pages after I have finished my work on the counties I have pending files for. Those counties are Goochland, Henrico, and Hanover. So be thinking of anything that you'd like to submit for those counties and soon I'll be posting new files there as well. Thanks again for all of you who have supported me and the archives. I hope to be more prompt in the future :) Jeannie ************* Now Available: "The Descendants of John Thomas Clay, Jamestown Immigrant and son of Sir John Clay of Wales" Also available: "The Descendants of James Bailey & Lucy Simms" For more info: http://www.trellis.net/users/madamx
Posted on: Amelia County Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Va/Amelia/461 Surname: Bolling, Brackett ------------------------- I've recently been apprised by Shirley Adair of the possibility that Frances Brackett, possibly a daughter of Ludwell Brackett and sister of Martha Brackett, was the wife of Robert Bolling of Buckingham County. If this is so it would solve an enduring Bolling family mystery. It appears that for well over a century Martha, who actually married a George Chesley, has been listed by Bolling chroniclers as the third wife of Robert M. Bolling (1795-1876) of Buckingham County. Instead this third wife may have been her sister Frances, who gave birth in 1851 to Susan Peyton Bolling, my wife's gggrandmother. The one "fly in the ointment" is a birth year for Frances of 1790, which would just not be feasible. The 1850 census says that "Frances Bolling" was 40-years-old. Furthermore, it's not likely that a 61-year-old woman would have given birth to Susan Bolling in 1851. I notice that LDS records have a "Betsy Brackett," daughter of Ludwell, born in 1810 in Amelia County. Might it be possible that this is actually Frances? Thanks for whatever light you may be able to shed, and very best wishes. Fred.
If there is anyone on this list that might have any information about Gideon Winfree, d. in Amelia Co. in 1782, please contact me. He was married to Ann (surname unknown), and had land around Deep Creek in Nottoway Parish. Gideon and Ann were parents of 8 children that I am aware of. Thanks for any help. Sincerely, J Beattie
