Virginia, Yes, please e-mail me your information. Is it from the family history written by Alexander Hynds in 1916? We have reason to believe that there may be some inaccuracy in his account of the Jones family. I look forward to seeing what you have and possibly exchanging other information. I am descended from Ben Davis Hynds, Parthenia's brother.
Jim, I will email you with some of the information I have. We are both looking for some of the same things. I have a few leads and ideas that I will be more than glad to share with you. Margie
Jim, I too am trying to find out about Clay Hill. I have a few leads. My gggggrandfather moved to Mississippi about 1830. He wouldn't have been living there in 1853 but his relatives would. I will be glad to share anything I can find with you. I plan to visit Virginia in several years to gather more information. I will email you also. There is something called the Randolph diaries & letters at the Virginia Historical Society I think they cover the period you are referring to and he did live there at that time. Margie

I have read your post with interest. I believe you are correct in the information it contains. After "Old Paul" died his property was sold for the benefit of his male children. Their names were as follows: William Henson b 1745, d 1786---- John Henson b ???? d ????---- James Henson b ???? d ????---- Richard Henson b 1860 d 1856+ ---- Paul Henson b 1762 d 1808 ---- The Girls were: Winetry Henson Lewis b ~1764 d ????---- Martha Henson May b 1766 d 1850+ ---- One of the the four fathered my ancestor who I believe to have the name of John but have never been able to prove it. It might be helpful if one could find who the wives were. Most of the four married and had children before they left North Carolina. They all left NC (Ashe Co) shortly after their father died and settled in Clay County Kentucky. Can any body come up with those marriages.?? Kind regards, Ralph
I do not know where Barnes is buried but the information I am sending you is from my husband's grandmother Martha Jane Allen Barnes. She was married to Robert Royall Barnes the son of CSA Cpt. James Barnes. The Barnes were originally from the Scandanavian Peninsula and used the Norse spelling. Persecution by Russia caused them to settle in England. Later they came to America and settled along the East Coast. William Barnes settled near Oxford, NC. He was a Methodist preacher. His son James Henry Barnes fought in the Mexican War. When the Civil War came he was too old, but he organized a company of his own -Amelia Minute Men- and fought under Stonewall Jackson. He was wounded twice. Once a testament he carried in his breast pocket saved his life(stopped the grapeshot). Again, grapeshot struck a small pistol he wore on his belt. It caused two bullets in the pistol to fire, which wounded him in the leg. Her husband Robert had seen the pistol. My husband does not know where the p! istol is now. Being captain of the company, he was always called Captain. He was also a local Methodist preacher. In her notes Martha says they have his license to preach but we do not have it now. My mother -in-law Mary Page Barnes Powell, daughter of Robert Royall Barnes, is unable to help with information. If I can find anymore information I will forward it to you.
I found a great Amelia County Genealogy Site: http://65.10.15.149/FreeGen/Home.html They will be adding over 1 billion names to their online database over the next few months.
Does anyone have any information on the John Tucker spoken of in John Tally's Will?
Hello All, I'm new to the list and wanted to post my information. I am researching the Chapman's of Amelia Co, VA, specifically of the Deatonville and/or Leigh Township area. My oldest ancestor Samuel Chapman b. abt 1700 - d. 1773, bought 400 acres of land beside Sandy Creek in Amelia Co, in 1752. Samuel deeded this land to his son John about 1765. John's son Benjamin was the executor of John's will in 1816 and it seems that Benjamin and his family stayed on the homeplace although John's will stated that the land was to go to his youngest son Jonathan when he arrives to the age of 21. From a book that was published in 1909 Benjamin's granddaughter Lucy Chapman Davis, wife of A.T. Davis, was still living on part of the original homeplace. This homeplace was approximately 3 1/2 miles north of Deatonville. Lucy had only one child Edith who was 18 years old in 1909. I would like to find out if any of Edith's descendants still live on the homeplace? I am descended from John's son James who left Amelia Co. about 1790, but I am working on all branches of this Chapman family. I was also wondering if there are any cemetery records available for the Deatonville area? If these records are not copyrighted I would be willing to put them in a database to be included on the Amelia Co. homepage in exchange for getting a copy of them. Thanks for you assistance. Paul Rekow
They didn't live in Troup Co., as far as I know. Elizabeth TRAYLOR was b. in Oglethorpe Co., GA. They died in Jasper Co., GA However, they very well could have been in Troup. I'm copying some notes from Wilkes Co. & Oglethorpe that might be helpful to you. Good luck. As one can see...I am a Tabb..born in Iowa 1924--father, James R Tabb, born in Ky in 1890...his father was George Miles Tabb..date of birth/death uncertain, but died in the 1930's amd was probably in his 70's...don't know the names of earlier Tabbs. My point is that now I live in Virginia...incidently on a street called Bolling Ave..where can I fit in to all the Tabb info on this and other geneology sites...I don't want to get into the geneology businss but would like to get a straight line--down from all the info on the net--to myself..
Did your Brooks families live in Troupe Co., GA?

<< Date: 19 Jul 2001 From: Wayneljoy@aol.com To: VAAMELIA-L@rootsweb.com I would be interested to know the Foster connection with Gloucester and Matthews Counties through Amelia. My Foster family lived in Campbell and Charlotte Counties and the names of two of my ancestors, Larkin Foster (1781-1854) and Isaac Foster (1783-1824) also appear somewhat later in Matthews Co. >> My ancestral 1st cousin, Christiana Hance Demonbreun, married Issac M. Foster, Sr., born in Virginia about 1809, in 1838 in Maury Co., Tennessee. Cleve Weathers Nashville
I am not so sure the link of Joseph being Peters father is incorrect. Tracing family bibles I have Peter son of Joseph and Nancy. He was killed in a horse injury.
