Tidbits of History Before 1700 Fluvanna Co. was inhabited by the Monacan Indians. 1725 - The first land patents 1727 - Goochland Co., formed from Henrico Co. 1732 - First white settler Edwards Scott, Goochland Magistrate, Sheriff and Burgess. 1744 - Albemarle Co. formed from Goochland Co., This new county included what is now known as present Albemarle., Fluvanna, Buckingham, Nelson, Amherst and parts of Appomattex and Campbell counties. 1774 - Lyles Baptist Church established. 1777 - Fluvanna Co. is formed from Albemarle Co. 1793 - First Post Office established at Columbia. "Between 1727 and 1827, a person would have been born is Goochland, married and raised a family in Albemarle and died in Fluvanna and never left his home."
