I have the parents of Mary NETHERLAND to be John NETHERLAND b. 1685, m. Sarah NETHERLIN d. 1745. And, I have the father of John NETHERLAND to be Robert NETHERLAND b. Abt. 1656, d. Bef. 1704. Robert's parents were Robert Sr NETHERLAND and Frances WARD. That's all that I know about this NETHERLAND line. None of this is documented. I obtained the info from another NETHERLAND family researcher. My ancestor is Frances HARRIS, daughter of William HARRIS, Jr. and Elizabeth WAGSTAFF. William HARRIS, Jr. is the son of William HARRIS and Mary NETHERLAND. Frances HARRIS b. Abt. 1773, Albemarle County, Virginia, d. December 21, 1828, Albemarle County, Virginia, m. Lewis NICHOLAS b. 1766, Williamsburg, Virginia, d. January 30, 1840, Albemarle County, Virginia. This information is documented in the NSDAR library in Washington, D.C. William HARRIS, Jr. is listed as a patriot for providing 312 lbs of beef. Lewis NICHOLAS's father, Robert Carter NICHOLAS, is listed as a patriot in the NSDAR for being a Member of the House of Burgess, the first Treasurer of Virginia, and a member of the Correspondence Committee. His Revolutionary War claim-to-fame is his request for a day of prayer in the House of Burgess for the colonists of Boston when the Boston Harbor was blockaded by the Brittish. Thomas JEFFERSON approached Robert Carter NICHOLAS and asked him to request a day of prayer. Since Robert Carter NICHOLAS was a moderate and liked by all, Jefferson felt that a request from NICHOLAS would be accepted by all without a hesitation. And, so it was. Please contact me if you have HARRIS or NICHOLAS family info to exchange or wish more information about the records available in the NSDAR library. Lonny J.
