I am a Virginia HOUFF descendant. Our HOUFF family did not come to this country until late June, 1779 from Germany. They were originally from the Hesse area of Germany and our HOUFF ancestor had fought as a "Hessian" soldier during the Revolutionary War. He returned to Germany after the war and then came back to this country in 1779 and settled originally in Lancaster County. His name has been lost, however, his son Benjamin Franklin Houff was born six weeks after they came to PA on August 15, 1779. He later migrated to Augusta County, VA and that is where most or all of my family are from. I doubt that your HOUGH was this line since they were here in the 1600's, but it's possible, I guess.
