As someone said, there's more than one family of Browns. Mine began with Buckingham Browne who emigrated with his family from London to Essex Co., Virginia in 1703-04. By the time (1750s) his sons migrated to Cumberland Co. VA, it was "Brown." My line went to Alleghany Co. VA after the Civil War.
