Dear List Members, Friends, and Cousins, I need help in locating any and all researchers you are descendants of or have researched the family of Thomas White and his wife Sarah Shelton of Orange and Albemarle County, Virginia. I am currently trying to document this family and verify information found in many databases containing this family from off-line publications and online files. In comparing notes and group sheets from many different researchers, there is much confusion and not nearly enough documentation that shows much proof of anything. So I need to come in contact with anyone who is currently trying to document this family as well, so we can compare notes, theories, and share documents and pictures with each other so this family can be properly and forever documented, beyond a reasonable doubt. Here are some facts I have on Thomas and Sarah Shelton and some other unverified information. Sarah Shelton was the daughter of Henry Shelton of Albemarle County according to his will filed there in 1799. She was deceased by 1799 and Thomas inherited her share of the estate of Henry Shelton. Thomas Shelton is said to have had a daughter named Nancy White who married Caleb Oliver. They were married in Orange County in Sept. 10 or 15, 1792 according to their Marriage Bond on file there dated Sept. 5, 1792. According to the History of Jones Co. Georgia, Thomas and Sarah White had issue: (1) Shelton White who m. Mildred Clark on Dec. 11, 1794 in Elbert Co., GA. I believe Shelton died in Oglethorp Co., GA but I haven't confirmed this yet. (2) John White married Rachel Carter (3) Nancy white m. Caleb Oliver. He died in Elbert Co. in 1826 (4) Henry White m. Mary Starke (5) Thomas White, Jr. m. Elizabeth Haynes Clark (they are buried in White cemetery in Jones Co., GA) (6)Joseph White m. Avarilla Harper (7) William White m. Concord Hamilton Brown None of these children stated can be verified until I can locate the estate papers of Thomas White or his bible, if one exists at all. This is why I cal ling on other descendants to help me verify all of this BASED ON PRIMARY SOURCES, not what others say they "heard". Thomas White is believed to be a son of the John White of Orange County, Virginia, according to many online and off databases, but this can't be verified 100%. The Will of John White was written on August 8, 1787 and probated Monday, February 25, 1788 in Orange County by his Executors and Sons, Conyers White and Thomas White, and witnesses John and Mary White, Jr. According to the will of John White (1787) he names his wife and the following children and grandchildren: Ann White - His beloved Wife (To remain at Plantation for life) Thomas White - son (Inherited John Shelton's Plantation after the death of Ann White, which would make him the oldest according to old traditions) John White - son Conyers White - son Mary White Shackleford - daughter Theodosia Shackleford Early - granddaughter Frances Shackleford Phillips - granddaughter Ann Shackleford Rhodes - granddaughter Elizabeth Shackleford Davis - granddaughter Sarah Shackleford Leathers - granddaughter This doesn't prove weather this is indeed the Thomas white who married Sarah Shelton. There were several men with like names at that time. Maybe an estate record of Ann White might give more concrete proof of relationship. So, if anybody is actively working on documenting this family and has records show proof of relationship of Thomas to his father and Estate records of Thomas identifying ALL his heirs, I would really appreciate hearing from you.
