    1. [VAALBEMA] Anna Harris, Wife of John Dabney - Is She Dau of Maj Robt Harris?
    2. Dear colonial Researchers, I need your help in sorting out some perhaps faulty genealogy: Is Anna Harris (b ca 1740 or so) a daughter of Major Robert Harris (d. after Jun 1765) of colonial Louisa Co. and sometimes of Albemarle Co.? Rev. Edgar Woods does not show her as one of the children of Robert Harris. ANNA HARRIS. She is reported by some genealogists to be daughter of Robert Harris, although Rev. Edgar Woods in ALBEMARLE COUNTY IN VIRGINIA [Bridgewater, VA: C. J. Carrier Co., 1900], p. 221, does not list her as one of the offspring of Robert and Mourning Harris. She was married to John Dabney of Albemarle Co. before 1763, as the two were witnesses to an Albemarle Co. deed: DB 3-303, 21 Feb 1763 Hugh Frazier to Joel Terrill for 30 pds., 200 acs. both sides Meadon Cr., branch of Rivanna adj Howard Cash. Wit: Jno & Anna Dabney, Jno. Patteson. (Note that Anna's brother Christopher [d. 1794 in Madison Co., KY] married [1st] Mary Dabney, by whom he had many children, among them Dabney Harris. Anna's probable brother, Robert Harris, son of Robert Harris, was married to Lucretia Brown, whose mother reportedly was Sarah Dabney. Here is some limited information about John Dabney: JOHN DABNEY. A man by this name was a "Gentleman Justice" in Louisa Co. 1772-73. Some Albemarle Co. records seem to indicate that although John Dabney had owned land in Albemarle Co., he was of Hanover Co. However, this record may refer to an older John Dabney and it is given below. "John Dabney; Commanded Dabney's Legion at Yorktown, at the time of Cornwallis' surrender. He was born in Hanover Co., 1724, and died 1821. His wife was Anna (Harris) Dabney. Their daughter, Elizabeth married Bernard Brown. (VIRGINIA SOLDIERS OF 1776,...) (no further info, sent by D. M. McKinney ltr ca. 1994) These records, if the above is true about the marriage and Dabney's activities in the Revolution, may pertain to an older John Dabney. This name is found also in Albemarle Co. deeds and in Amherst Co. deeds. The one in Amherst may be a younger John Dabney. John Dabney of Louisa Co. bought property in Albemarle Co. in 1759. This may refer to another John Dabney, other than the husband of Anna Harris. Albemarle Co. DB 2-303-307, 5 Sep 1759, David Lewis of the Par. of St. Anne in Albemarle Co., Gent. & Mary his wife, William Terrell of Par. of Fredericksville in Co. of Louisa & Frances his wife & Joel Terrell of Par of Fredericksville in Co. of Albemarle, to John Dabney of Par. of St. Paul in Hanover, Planter, for 100 pds. parcel lying in Par. of St. Anne in Albemarle Co., S. sd of road leading to Wood's Gap on branches of Ivey & Moore's Creek, ln. of William Terrell Lewis, Moore's Cr. near sd. [Jerdone?], 400 A, part of 2,000 A. granted by Patent 3 Oct 1734 unto Joel Terrell & David Lewis. /s/ David Lewis, William Terrell, Joel Terrell Wit: William Terrell Lewis, Joel Lewis, Henry Carter. (Ruth & Sam Sparacio, DEED & WILL ABSTRACTS OF ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA, 1748-1752, p. 85) There is reference in Louisa Co. VA Deed Bk D-133-134, 23 Nov 1773, to the acting Trustees of John Dabney late of Hanover Co., deceased. (Details furnished on request). This latter person is NOT the same who was active in the last days of the American Revolution. Your analysis is appreciated. E.W.Wallace a Harris descendant (of Maj. Robert Harris)
