Most genealogists of any repute generally reject sources without citations. As you may suspect, William Harris is quite a common name, even in colonial Virginia. On what watercourse (creek, swamp, river) did the man live? Land records generally give some inkling of where the man lived. Who were his associates? (Who witnessed his deeds, posted bonds for him, helped him maintain the roads?) In colonial days, the fellow did not go far to find his bride. So look for his neighbors in all the records you can find. They generally witnessed some of his documents. Also, watercourses (wonderful rivers in Virginia--with water in them, unlike the West where I live) were the main means of transportation. Good luck! E.W.Wallace
