I am new to this list and I am searching for a Peter Kappes. I learned, on another list, that the Hesse-Hanau POW's were taken to Carlotteville. Then when the threat of german/British drew near they were moved onto Winchester VA. I learned there is a possibility of them then being moved from there to Frederick MD and onto Reading PA. I am searching for Peter Kappes as I now he sold himself for indenture in 1783, but not to whom or where. He then shows up possibly in Gloucester NJ in 1801, married and a baby on the way with the name changed to Cavis. My question is does anyone on the list know if Peter Kappes stayed in the Albemarle area or if he indeed went with the rest of the Hesse Hanau Artillery unit as POW's to Winchester?
