    3. > DOWELL, John & DOWELL, Richard > who were present at a marriage 23dec1799. Jim, I have some Dowell info. There are records for a Wm. Dowell just bef. 1700 in Surry Co. There is a 1756 record that Wm. or John Dowell was a trooper in the militia in Prince Wm. County. I am interested in whose m. they were present for in Albemarle, if you'd care to share. My line is as follows: John Dowell b.bef. 1713 m. Mary Unk. bef. 1734 to Richard Dowell m. Mary to John Dowell m. Mary Davis to William Dowell b. 1790 Albemarle m. 18 January 1810 Albemarle Co. Sally Pickett (d/o Mace Picket & unk.) to Sally Dowell b. 1820 Albemarle Co. d. aft. 1870 m. October 1838 Albemarle Tipton Walton (s/o John Walton & Rhoda Davis) I am pretty confident of the line from John Dowell m. Mary Davis downwards, but do not know Mary's parents. There are several chancery records at LVA concerning this line of Dowels (that lived on Prittys/Priddys Creek in Albemarle) but they are only available by visiting LVA. They have not yet been microfilmed and I was told there are no plans to microfilm the Albemarle records in the near future. The most promising ones appear to be: MAJOR DOWELL & WIFE vs. HEIR(S) OF JOHN DOWELL 1806-022 MAJOR DOWELL vs.HEIR(S) OF JOHN DOWELL 1809-046 This would (I think) be the John Dowell who m. Mary Davis. Someone you can contact for Dowel info is James E. Dowell email: jedjad@aol.com He has been researching them for more than 20 years. If you share your info with him, he will share with you. Hope this has helped point you in the right direction. Julie Shiflet Family Genealogy http://www.geocities.com/~jcrosswell/
