    3. All, I find this genealogy subject very interesting and informative. I also use the LDS IGI etc. to find clues but as pointed out by many, it is extremely inaccurate and misleading if one is not aware. I regularly pore over the LDS microfilms of original census, probate records, deeds and marriages etc. which can be very tedious as they are handwritten and often faint but they are original records and give me the proof I desire. I would recommend anyone to avail themselves of the microfilms the LDS church makes available to all regardless of church affiliation. Through these films, I often am able to correct my own records, many of which were provided by others willing to share with me. The comment by Sandra below about putting data on sites such as Ancestry.com and other sites hit home with me. I too am now careful as to what I put on a web page. I have found sites with my data intact (word for word). As an example of the problem I run into, when I put an estimated date of birth based on the data I have and use the words estimated, before, after or about, the person who copies my data removes the words estimated, before, after or about and puts the date of birth on the web as fact. When I e-mail the person to ask for their source of this fact I am often stonewalled. Yes, I realize they don't have a source (other than my data) but they never come back and give me as their source. However I believe that if we do not share and assist each other we are only limiting our own research. Still searching for parents of Solomon Harris, born (ABT.) 1775, (PROBABLY) in VA, married a Nancy Blackwell of Surry Co., NC (ABT.) 1797. >Sandra Tyler Duncan writes: Thank you all for the great advice, I myself fell a victim of my own devices...I placed my data at Ancestry.com because I was (mistakenly) under the impression that the filtered out living persons data...The day I saw my living persons in the files of two "NAME COLLECTORS" I quickly pulled my stuff from there,I asked BOB & HUPPE to remove my living persons from their data but neither did & I am not new at this business , researching since 1970, Internet since 1992.So, I am much more careful these days. And one of the lists that I am on has the tagline, " GENEALOGY WITHOUT DOCUMENTATION IS JUST MYTHOLOGY", as much as I use the FHC I am very aware of how it is compiled, but I am also aware that my mother's birth record is in error....Never was corrected....I always do my best to get the facts as close as I can humanly make them, documentation and all SANDRA TYLER DUNCAN Sacramento, CA
