    3. Sandra, Just be careful of anything you find on the Ancestral File or the newer Pedigree disks on http;familysearch.com. I sent in my information 12 years ago and a "helpful" Mormon cousin took it upon himself to make corrections. However, since he was not related to this family, either by blood or marriage, had never researched them or even read a will, his information was WRONG and it remains so today. Nothing shows sources and I find too many mistakes to be used as a research tool. Rosemary >From: "Sandra E. T. Duncan" <purplevw1@attbi.com> >Reply-To: "Sandra E. T. 3. I strongly second Rosemary's advice from personal experience which actually began in the late 1960's and still continues from time to time. With little or no correct documentation compiled pedigrees are in the category of hearsay. Correct documentation for relationships is not just a book title. Use LDS material only as a finding tool. Genealogical research requires study of evidence, then analysis & confirmation. The IGI is also a finding tool because it's merely an Index to "something else". If one sends for copy of the "something else", surprises, good and bad, are always in store! Exceptions, of course, are LDS microfilms of primary records. Happy Holidays, and may we all have a great research year in 2003 !! 3. Thank you all for the great advice, I myself fell a victim of my own devices...I placed my data at Ancestry.com because I was (mistakenly) under the impression that the filtered out living persons data...The day I saw my living persons in the files of two "NAME COLLECTORS" I quickly pulled my stuff from there,I asked BOB & HUPPE to remove my living persons from their data but neither did & I am not new at this business , researching since 1970, Internet since 1992.So, I am much more careful these days. And one of the lists that I am on has the tagline, " GENEALOGY WITHOUT DOCUMENTATION IS JUST MYTHOLOGY", as much as I use the FHC I am very aware of how it is compiled, but I am also aware that my mother's birth record is in error....Never was corrected....I always do my best to get the facts as close as I can humanly make them, documentation and all SANDRA TYLER DUNCAN Sacramento, CA http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=purplevw1&I11.x=17&I11.y =7 http://www.progenealogists.com/genealogysleuthb.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: "wmhunt" <wmhunt@frontiernet.net> To: <VAALBEMA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, December 24, 2002 9:43 AM Subject: Re: [VAALBEMA] Fw: [FO] HFC "online" > I strongly second Rosemary's advice from personal experience which actually > began in the late 1960's and still continues from time to time. 3. Need advice: (I prefer submitting only a limited tree, so as to be able to better control the editing of living persons, as there will not be that many names to change to "Living.") At ancestry.com, when you do a search, if someone has submitted an “Outline Tree” for that person you are searchiing, it will show up in the category “Ancestor World Tree entries.” I have submitted one direct ancestry for myself (which does show up at ancestry.com as above). I was able to submit this outline tree thru the availability of this "outline tree" program thru my membership in a myfamily…. site; however, I’ve not yet been able to find the use of an “Outline Tree” WITHOUT COST to submit my other trees that I would like to submit. Is there anyone that might be able to guide me to the spot that I might access the “Outline Tree” in order to submit other trees to them without paying for the privilege. Thanks so very much, Dee ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sandra E. T.
