    1. [VAALBEMA] FERGUSON/GILMORE - Albemarle Co., VA

    3. Hello, I have almost given up finding the parents, etc. of my Fergusons and Gilmores in Albemarle Co., VA. I descend from two GILMORE sisters, daughters of Frances "Franky" EUBANK and Joseph GILMORE of Albemarle Co., VA. Joseph was born ca 1744, and I guess he was born in Albemarle, but no proof. He wrote a codicil to his will 28 Apr 1828, and his will was proved 2 Jun 1828 Albemarle Co., VA. I am guessing that he and Franky married about 1769. None of the Gilmores in surrounding counties want to claim Joseph as one of their clan. The only possibility is a John Gilmore who lived in Albemarle earlier, but later moved to NC. Joseph lived on the south fork of Harware River, and he mentioned his land as being on the Warren Road. Their daughter Catherine "Caty" GILMORE was born 9 Mar 1773 in Albemarle and married William FERGUSON 28 Oct 1793 in Albemarle. I have that he was born before 1765, and I think I got that from the 1810 Barren Co., KY census. William died 1810/1811 in Barren Co., KY, in an area that later became Allen Co. They lived on Walnut Creek. I am almost positive that William had a brother named Daniel Ferguson who married Elizabeth Thomas, daughter of Mary JOPLIN and Ralph THOMAS. William and Daniel witnessed a couple of GILMORE girl's marriages. Surely he was related to William if he was witnessing William's in-law's weddings. I believe Daniel and his family moved to Nelson Co. I understand there was an earlier Daniel Ferguson in Albemarle and he's a possibility; he may have been killed in the American Revolution. I have an inventory, Will Book 2, Page 387, from Albemarle County, VA, for the Estate of Daniel FARGUSON, and it starts off, "We the subscribers being first sworn agreeable to an order of Albemarle Court hath appraised the Estate of Daniel Farguson, deceased, which was shewn to us November 24, 1779 as followeth." The last part states, "Albemarle April Court 1780. This Inventory and appraisement was returned to court and ordered to be recorded." Test: Hudson Martin, D. Clerk" I don't know who the appraisers were. The second page has nothing to do with the first page, which was page 387. The second page starts with John Ballard's will. If anyone has any suggestions, I would be so grateful if you would share them with me. Thank you, and have a wonderful day. Warm regards, Sharon Clark Fort Worth, TX clarksha@swbell.net
