Chamah Cheskchamay I'm a Tribal Council Member of the Wicocomico Indian Nation, a Chiefdom of the Powhatan Empire ( confederacy) during the late 1500s and middle 1600s. After the Empire broke up we made separate treaties with the English as the other Chiefdoms of the Powhatan Empire did. Recently we were placed on the Federal Register for Federal recognition. Currently we have a well documented family lineage on Taptico and Tapp and beginning research on Vesey and Curtis which we think are family names of the Wicocomico. We are also directing our research to find other Native Americans that are descendants of the Wicocomico , Chickacone and Corotoman. These three tribes merged in 1652-55 at the direction of the Northumberland County Council.
