Hi to the list Is anyone searching SAUNDERS? James G. Saunders married Ann Amanda Jones in Albemarle County 1851. They are both buried in Maplewood Cemetery in Ch-ville.. Adjacent is Paoli. There is a Jones - Paoli connection - but have not put this together with Saunders - Jones. Looking for Ann Amanda Jones' parents. There is a possibility she was daughter of Turner A. Jones and Sarah Garner who were married 1820 Albemarle. Not seen on 1850 Census in this area. To make matters even more confusing, James G. Saunders is the son of Turner Anderson Saunders...Is this coincidence or what? TIA Alice in Fluvanna
Hi: I am researching Elizabeth (______)MOORE. From papers we have located she was born 10/3/1786 in Albermarle Co. She had a son, James M. MOORE, b 7/4/1819 and a daughter, Caroline Yancy MOORE, b 7/8/1820 in Albermarle Co. (I wonder if the Yancy goes back to the maternal side of the family.) Caroline m Valentine CACKLEY from Pocahontas Co., WV. Caroline died in 1849 after giving birth to Caroline CACKLEY. Elizabeth was living with the children and Valentine in 1850--(maybe her husband had died??). All help is appreciated!!!!! Doris Snyder dvs1119@aol.com

I have a few Saunders in my tree. Benjamin Saunders (1799-1870), married Mary Ann Foster (1815-1881). I do not have the parents of Benjamin. Mary Ann Foster's parents were: Francis Augustus Foster and Lydia Stephney. The children of Benjamin and Mary Ann were: Louvenia Saunders B. 1848 - ? Susan Saunders b. 1850 - ? I have much more information on the Foster line if you are interested. Liz
Hi to the list Are there any Saunders researchers on the list? TIA Alice
Hi to the List Hoping someone on the list might be familiar with this... this information was given a long time back by two different souces, so we believe it was correctly stated at that time: >From Scottsville go east on state route 6 about 1.5 miles. At top of hill turn right on dirt road. Pass an old house on the right that may have been the BRADY Place. This road traversed an area of Drivers Hill where supposedly there is a cemetery with at least one know burial. Saunders family history was that tombstone was placed on the grave of ROBERT LUTHER SAUNDERS by his son. Robert Luther Saunders died 1862. I have spoken with Mr. Thacker who was in the Funeral Business in Scottsville, and he is not aware of this cemetery. Is there anyone on the list who might know if it is still there and accessible? TIA Alice
Is there anyone else out there searching the Tompkins/Thompkins in Virginia? I am looking for the parents of Edward B. Tompkins b. 1811 somewhere in Virginia (according to census records). The only iformation I have is that he married a lady named Pheobe Russell that was born in Virginia in 1811.Both families apparently left Virginia and came to Ohio. Because they were married on January 5, 1832 in Belmont County, Ohio. Anyone with any information it will be greatly appreciated. I have Ohio Tompkins family information if anyone needs it. Hi; there is something called the Rhodes Farm Inn in Nelson county. It is a farmhouse that is essentially a restaurant. Maybe this relates to your relatives. Just a shot in the dark. Hello, I just thought I would pass this on; you probably already know this anyway, but I didn't because I had not ordered copies from the Albemarle County Clerk's office in quite some time. If you want to order copies of wills, deeds, etc., send your request to: Tonette J. Morris 501 East Jefferson Street Charlottesville, VA 22902 Her telephone number is: 804 972-4083. I wrote to the clerk's office a little over a week ago requesting copies of some old deeds. Today I received my letter back with a note from them that they have started charging $10.00 for search fee, and then you also have to pay for the copies. So, if you want to order copies, send a check for at least $10.00 and then I guess they will let you know how much the copies cost. Someone several years ago said that she sent a blank check made out to them with the notation: "not to exceed (blank) dollars", which is what I did. I thought I would pass this on in case someone wanted to order copies and didn't know how. I know that I didn't know how at one time. Have a great evening. Warm regards, Sharon Clark Fort Worth, TX clarksha@swbell.net

Hi Sharon; In relation to HEARDS, all I can tell you is that there is a Heard's Mountain off of route 29 that is south of Charlottesville. I belelive that there is a Heard's store that is way back in the mountains there. Maybe that place is where your Heard's came from., just a thought. Hello, Does anyone have any information at all on these folks? I'm beginning to wonder if my JOSEPH GILMORE might be one of their children. A dear distant cousin went to the Clayton Library in Houston yesterday and copied some Gilmore information for me. She scanned it and sent it to me today, so there may be some scanning errors. Here is one of the items she sent: pp. 231-233 THIS INDENTURE made this sixth day of September one thousand seven hundred and sixty two Between HENRY CARTER of the Parish of Prince Ann in the County of Albemarle of the one part and JACOB CLEAVELAND of the aforesaid Parish & County Witnesseth that for the sum of eleven pounds current money to him in hand paid (Henry Carter) doth sell unto Jacob Cleaveland his heirs one certain parcel of land containing seventy acres lying on the Branches of the South Fork of Hardware River in the Parish & County aforesaid bounded Beginning at Pointers in JOHN GILMORE line and running new lines North & West crossing a branch to a chesnut South &West to a red oak South &East to pointers North & East crossing the North & South Fork of Mettle Branch to a red oak and North twenty and an half degrees East with said JOHN GILMOREs line eighty poles to the first station. Presence JOHN FOSTER, Henry Carter ELI CLEVELAND, JOHN HENSLEE At a Court held for Albemarle County the ixth day of September 1762 This Indenture Memorandum & receipt were acknowledged by Henry Carter party thereto and ordered to be recorded. *** In a deed of gift to his son, Joseph described his land as: he lying on the North and East of the public road leading from Rock Fish Gap to the Town of Warren on James River. His wife, Frances EUBANK GILMORE, was the daughter of Hannah and John EUBANK. In Rev. Woods' book, History of Albemarle Co., there is a write-up on John Eubank: "Families of the Eubank name have lived along the south fork of Harware from the earliest times. They sprang from two brothers, George and John. It is believed they came from Orange County." Frances and Joseph's daughter, Elizabeth GILMORE, married John WEATHERRED, whose mother was Agnes SUDDARTH, daughter of Patience SUMTER and James SUDDARTH. Rev. Woods states: "William and James Suddarth were early settlers in the county. They were undoubtedly brothers. They and their descendants were located on the south fork of Hardware between the Cross Roads and Covesville." I may be wrong, but it sounds to me as if Jane HEARD and John GILMORE lived near the Suddarths and the EUBANKs, which was also where Joseph GILMORE lived. This makes me think that perhaps Joseph was their son. I cannot find any other GILMORE in Albemarle Co. during that period. There were GILMERs, but no GILMOREs. If anyone has any information on Jane HEARD and John GILMORE, would you please share it with me. I'll be happy to share what I have. Thanks, and have a great weekend.
