    2. Hope it helps someone. ELKIN, NC - The Rev. Hassell Aubrey "Hack" Frye Sr., 84, left to be with his heavenly father on Friday, June 29, 2001, at the Wake Forest Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Surviving are his wife of 57 years Betty Ray Loflen Frye of the home; and a son and daughter-in-law, Hassell Aubrey Frye Jr. and Cathy of Westfield, Mass. He also leaves two granddaughters and their husbands, Caroline Margaret Babinski and Jason, and Cynthia Rae Crichton and David; and four great-grandchildren, David Dennis and Adrian Aubrey Crichton, and Cory Michael and Kayce Ann Babinski, all of Westfield, Mass.; as well as many nieces and nephews in North Carolina and Virginia. Rev. Hassell was a direct descendant of John Fry of Albemarle County, Va., who fought in the Revolutionary War. He was born in Pilot Mountain May 19, 1917, Surry County, and was the last living of nine children of Samuel Jesse Fry and Mattie Mae Thor Fry. He grew up in Pilot Mountain and graduated from Pilot Mountain High School where he was an All-State baseball and basketball player. After high school, he worked for the A and Y Railroad until being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1941. He attained the rank of Technical Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was married on Nov. 25, 1943, in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and after his tour of service, moved to Elkin with his family to play semi-pro baseball and basketball with The Blanketeers of Chatham Manufacturing Co. He remained employed at Chatham's until his retirement in 1972. In the early 1950s, he was one of the founders of the Elkin Little League and coached the Dodgers and many all-star and championship teams. He also helped start the Elkin YMCA Church Youth Basketball League and was a longtime ham radio operator whose call sign was K4NTZ. In 1962, he was ordained a Baptist minister and pastored numerous churches in Surry and Yadkin counties, including Fairview Baptist, Shiloh Baptist, Huntsville Baptist, and East Bend Baptist. Hack will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was a beloved member of the community and touched many lives with his kindness and strong religious beliefs and principles. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Dobson, with the Revs. Tommy Johnson and Larry Lefler officiating. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens in Elkin with full military honors conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2019 of Mount Airy and VFW Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Surry County Emergency Medical Services, 1218 State Street, Suite 500, Mount Airy, NC 27030, or to the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Coronary Unit, Medical Center Blvd., Winston-Salem, NC 27157.     3. I have just read the book Jefferson's Nephews by Boynton, Merrill. I found that: Thomas Jefferson Jr namesake of the President and his wife Mary Randolph Lewis had 3 children Robert Lewis, Peter Field, and _______ who? The Lewises were Presbyterian. I believe the third child to be Mary Abigail Jefferson. I would like to look at the Presbyterian Church Records for Albemarle Co for the years 1808-1815 to see if I can find these children. Dept of Health returned my request (but not my money) saying no record found. They couldn't find her birth either. If there was an obit, which paper would have been most likely for the time and area? Bluford GENTRY, Jr. died in Maryland in 1918 of tuberculosis and had worked on the B&O railroad according to his ggrandson, Anthony Blair. I don't know much about Bluford Jr.'s brothers & sisters except for one brother, William Oscar GENTRY, who was my husband's grandfather. Was your gggrandmother, Francis, a daughter of Austin Bernard GENTRY? I would be interested in info about her, too. I'll gladly share what I have on the line if you're interested.     3. The following obits were submitted by researchers to the Shiflett Family Genealogy website. Prize Hill Cemetery is in Albemarle County. CHRISTOPHER SHIFFLETT 1923 Christopher Shifflett died Jan 6, 1923, at his home near Mission Home after a brief illness with pneumonia. The funeral was held from the United Brethren Church at Prize Hill, the services being conducted by Rev. R. W. Lewis. Mr Shifflett was the son of Mr and Mrs Bryant Shifflett and was 20 years old . Besides his parents he is survived by two brothers and six sisters. EDWARD SHIFLETT 1942 Edward Shiflett died at 8:30 o'clock Saturday night at his home at Boonesville, after an extended illness. He was a native of Albemarle, son of the late Ralph and Georgia McAllister Shiflett. Besides his wife, Deniva Shiflett, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Samuel Shiflett of Sparrows Point, Md., and two sons, Elijah and Brown Shiflett, both of Dundalk, Md. Mr. Shiflett also leaves four brothers, Elijah and Bert Shiflett of Fordwick, R.L. Shiflett of Durbin, W. Va., and Noah Shiflett of Free Union; and four sisters, Mrs. Hester Morris of Mission Home, Mrs. Lula Davis of Boonesville, Mrs. Alice Beverly of Milburn, W. Va., and Mrs. Gertrude Holly of this city. The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon from Prize Hill Church at Boonesville and interment will follow in the churchyard.
