Hello Folks, Alvin Byrd has just called me. He has asked me to pass on to all that he has been hit by a TROJAN. It apparently is working it's way through his address book. PLEASE DO NOT OPEN ANY ATTACHMENTS FROM HIM AND DELETE THEM IMMEDIATELY. I send his condolences, Debrah
Chamah Cheskchamay I'm a Tribal Council Member of the Wicocomico Indian Nation, a Chiefdom of the Powhatan Empire ( confederacy) during the late 1500s and middle 1600s. After the Empire broke up we made separate treaties with the English as the other Chiefdoms of the Powhatan Empire did. Recently we were placed on the Federal Register for Federal recognition. Currently we have a well documented family lineage on Taptico and Tapp and beginning research on Vesey and Curtis which we think are family names of the Wicocomico. We are also directing our research to find other Native Americans that are descendants of the Wicocomico , Chickacone and Corotoman. These three tribes merged in 1652-55 at the direction of the Northumberland County Council. If you or you know of any one that has a Native American heritage and has not been able to determine their heritage, please contact Al Byrd at byrdman@theriver.com ALL INFORMATION WILL BE SECURE, NO INFORMATION WILL BE GIVEN TO ANYONE OTHER THAN THE WICOCOMICO COUNCIL TO DETERMINE IF YOU ARE A DESCENDANT OF THE WICOCOMICO. Hi Folks - I've just subscribed with a goal of helping a friend begin some on site genealogical research in Albemarle County. I sure would appreciate any further information or possible leads to pass on about the following. Any possible connect will be appreciated. 1. John Fitz who died in 1893 and is buried at Aspen Hill which was his homeplace in Keswick. Also buried there is W.W. Fitz, son of John. Would appreciate any lead as to location or history on Aspen Hill or cemetery at Keswick. 2. John Fitz, grandfather of above mentioned John, was born, lived and died at the top of Fitz's Mountain (1893) as part of the Clover Fields estate. A Mrs.----- Vangrit also attended school in the same Old Field Schoolhouse where John was student. This was near Pleasant Valley. John worked as a clerk in his early years to John Boyd at Boyd's Tavern then at Everettsville. Any leads or information on Fitz Mountain, Clover Fields, Pleasant Valley, Boyd's Tavern and Everettsville would certainly be appreciated. 3. George Crank Omohundro, Sr. born 1810 in Fluvanna County and reared on a from near Hunter's Lodge - died 1890 and also buried near Keswick near his farm. (Mary C. was George's oldest child and married George Peyton. These last two are both buried at Thorn Rose Cemetery in Staunton.) George Omohundro worked as a clerk at Boyd's Tavern Hotel on Three Chop Road, then the pike from Richmond to Charlottesville and probably is the same Boyd's Tavern mentioned in 2 above. In 1849 he went to Charlottesville and ran the Jefferson House. Later he built the Central Hotel a relic which stood for a long time at the C&O Depot in Charlottesville. He bought a 600 acre estate at the foot of Monticello Mountain called Moore's Brook from William Farish in 1853 and built a home there. He later lost this and moved to Keswick where he died. Would appreciate any leads or information on the above mentioned folks and places. 4. There is a Park Hill in Albemarle County the ancestral home of Henry Peyton. Henry and his wife Lucinda Farrish of Albemarle County are also buried at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton. Would be most interested if anyone knows about Park Hill. Much thanks in advance for any help anyone might be able to give. Best regards, John Tallman Lookout Mountain, Tennessee

Hi Go to the Albemarle Historical Society on 2nd street downtown...they will have what you need! They are only open a few hours on Saturday (10 - 1?) Alice in Fluvanna
Hello Everyone, I have been off the list for several months (formerly janmim@aol.com also), since the collapse of my whole Christopher Clark>Penelope & Joseph Anthony>Sarah Anthony & Thomas Cooper>Mary Polly Cooper & John Waller>Mary Polly Waller & Crispen Robertson Shelton (married. 1807) line, since discovery of info (bible type record) that John and Polly Cooper's daughter Polly was b. in 1800. I still have a John Waller though, just not placed (and not the son of Geo & Anne Winston Carr -- another collapsed line). The Shelton boys pretty nearly always married first cousins, etc. but a marriage to a 7 year-old was a bit much even for them. Since I devoted a subtantial amount of time to these folks especially the Coopers, the grief process has been slow <vbg>, but my daughter has given me a new and entirely different challenge in the area. My 19 year old daughter has actually asked me via a non-collect PHONE CALL (not email or IM), to find out the history of the Victorian 1880s she she is living in, which is privately owned, but situated pretty much smack dab in the middle of the Univeristy of Virginia campus (closer than her dorm last year). Her initial interest was that it might be haunted (ie, find out who was murdered or died of heartbreak there) -- due to a series of events in September dealing with in retrospect she agrees a combination of 9 girls setting their computers up by themselves, with the help of one who was doing their DSL line installations (ie, computers turning selves off, gibberish on H&P printers, which I told her how to correct)....AND, some unexplained missing or displaced items -- attributable to back-to-school celebratory events I believe. Anyway...She still wants to know the history of the house. My suggestion that SHE make a visit to the local library and courthouse has fallen on deaf ears....she has suggested that all of my skills at genealogy research make me much more qualified (picture me rolling my eyes). I have never quite done anything like this. I will probably go down there the weekend after next. Are there any books on grand Victorian houses of Charlottesville? On haunted houses? Does the library have City Directories from the late 1800s. I tried to search at the website, but came up empty. Since I can only do this on Saturday, a courthouse is not an option. And yes, I have told her to ask her landlord what he/she knows, but she thinks it is a realty company. Best Regards, Janet (Baugh) Hunter
I have been researching Matthias Ayres of Henrico, Goochland, Albemarle and eventually Buckingham County (same land - the county boundaries kept changing) . He was born about 1700 and died about 1782 in Buckingham County. He married Elizabeth Hales about 1740. She died about 1818 in Buckingham County. I was looking through "The Complete Book of Emigrants 1607-1776" in the volume titled " The Complete Book of Emigrants in Bondage" and found the following entry - Hales, Elizabeth. Sentenced to transportation February Transported 14 years May 1740 Essex, London. Does anyone know if this is her ? I interpret this to mean that she was 14 years old in 1740, was sentenced for some crime in February 1740, and shipped out of the port of London in May 1740. Does anyone know how to interpert this ? Does anyone know how to check Essex 1740 court records? I can be reached at ayresall@mediaone.net Rob Ayres

Alexander Brown's list of Early Albermarle/Amherst/Bedford area settlers has been updated to include surnames up to "S". You can find this list temporarily on my site (till submitted to rootsweb): http://members.tripod.com/magannfamily/id58.htm The search engine on my home page: http://members.tripod.com/magannfamily/index.htm will search most of the site, but for some reason, I can't get it to search the "R&S" page I just added. I will work on that when I get time. Till then, browsing is recommended, especially for those surnames. Janet
