    1. [VAALBEMA] GIBSON Family connections to DETTOR & BENNINGTON
    2. Elaine Randall English
    3. Does anyone have a connection to the following GIBSON family? 1507/1507-20 Oct 1850-Census Albemarle Co., VA Tandy Gibson 28M B: VA Elizabeth Gibson 26F B: VA Eliza Gibson 14F B: VA John Gibson 12M B:VA Tandy Gibson 10M B: VA Frances Gibson 08F B:VA Mary Gibson 06F B:VA I suspect that the above Frances Gibson, age 8 is the same that is found in Washington Co., VA 1860 census in the household of Henry K. Dettor as age 16, "Spinster", and that the above Tandy Gibson, age 10, is the same that is found in 1860 Albemarle Co., VA census in household of Lemuel Bennington as Tandy Gibson, age 20. Henry K. Dettor was brother of the wife of Lemuel Bennington, Martha A. Dettor Bennington. What is the connection to the DETTOR family to these GIBSONS if any? Hoping for answers, or at least clues! 1. [VAALBEMA] BENNINGTON, DETTOR, PARIS/PARRISH
    2. Elaine Randall English
    3. Recently found the following concerning my ggg grandmother (Elizabeth Farrah Suddarth Dettor) Eliza F. Dettor, DOD-13 Jan 1864; POD-North Garden, Albemarle; Cause-Consumption; Age-64; Names of Parents-Wm & Martha Suddarth; Where born-Albemarle; Informant-Mrs. Bennington, daughter This record would indicate that daughter (Martha) BENNINGTON, wife of Lemuel or Samuel Bennington, was in Albemarle at least in 1864. This might lead me to conclude that she and others of her siblings were living in Albemarle in 1870. Does anyone have access to the index for 1870 Albemarle Census? I'd be most interested to find surnames: BENNINGTON, DETTOR, PARIS (or PARRISH) in that census. Thanks for any help. Elaine Randall English eng4@alltel.net

    1. [VAALBEMA] Albemarle Marriage
    2. Hi Sandra Cousin Alice here...we are currently in Springfield Oregon and not able to check my mail daily...so this may not be relevant now...however, it sounds like the book you mention is the old compilation of marriages by Norford which went up to ca 1929 and included both Albemarle and Charlottesville marriages, but full of errors. I have access to this at both AHS and our Fluvanna Library...will be glad to check for you when we return if you need lookup. I doubt you can purchase it new as a reprint. Alice

    1. [VAALBEMA] 1900 census - Which district??
    2. Hi Albemarle gang, I have access to ancestry.com census info but need some census district help. Does anyone know what district Locust Avenue, near Martha Jefferson Hospital, is in the 1900 census? Ancestry.com has the census divided by districts and it is not indexted by surname. I could spend the rest of my life scanning page by page. If I knew the census district it would be a great help. I'm searching, by the way, Samuel M. Young , just in case someone has 1900 indexed already. Thanks Sue

    1. [VAALBEMA] John Peter(s), Jr.
    2. Am searching for information on the children of John/Jonathan Peter(s), Jr., who lived in and around the Albemarle/Amherst County areas of VA. According to my information he was born circa 1732, maybe in England, and died circa 1800 somewhere in VA. John/Jonathan Peter(s) was married at least twice -- to an unknown & to Elizabeth Rice. For children of John/Johnathan Peter(s), I have listed the following: Lucretia Jonathan William Sarah James All of these children, except James, migrated to KY and IN. Can anyone add any children to this family? Thank you in advance for any information. I look forward to reading your E-mails and to continuing this discussion of the Peter(s) surname. Sincerely, Mike Peters npeters102@aol.com

    1. Re: [VAALBEMA] Cemetery Inventory Book
    2. RLB
    3. Robert, Don't know if you received a response on this. The DAR chapters did an inventory of the extant cemetaries in the early 1970s (pre-bicentennial). There are sets in the Albemarle Historical Society library, the Library of Virginia and the DAR Library in Washington. The set in LVA has to be requested from the stacks, which is very inconvenient since it consists of approx. 13 thick, 8 1/5 x 11 bound books. Understand that the set at AHS is on the open shelves. Can't be of other help, as I'm not in C'ville. Good luck! best, Rosanna Bencoach > Subject: [VAALBEMA] Cemetery Inventory Books? > Date: Sun, 31 Mar 2002 19:38:25 -0600 > From: <rcj@mindspring.com> > To: VAALBEMA-L@rootsweb.com > > Dear List members, > > Are there any books available that contain inventories of all the cemeteries > in Albemarle County? 1. [VAALBEMA] Good News
    2. hi to the list was in the clerk's office recently and was talking with a gentleman also researching. He was reading court orders and in one book he pointed out a section that was devoted to road orders ca 1870. These orders when read from beginning to end will give the names of many, if not most, of the persons owning land who were responsible for maintaining the roads in Albemarle near/by their property...I had never seen these entries, and they are a real goldmine! I believe he said this was book # 23. Of course, this is not indexed! If I remember correctly, he also said he had seen similar entries in the 1840s Hi Bre - good to see you there also and you can add to this what you understood! Alice in Fluvanna

    1. [VAALBEMA] GARRISON, WOOD, ANDERSON, RINER mystery photos
    2. I have copies of a couple of photos found among my grandmother's albums. I am unsure of their identity or place in my family tree- perhaps someone could help. The photos were found along with a picture of my great grandmother Carrie WOOD and husband William Jackson RINER with one of their children and several photos of Carrie's brother Elijah "Roy" WOOD from the early 1900's. This family was from Greene Co/ Albemarle Co, VA. The first photo is labeled Elva GARRISON and was taken at Layton's Studio in Richmond , VA. The only GARRISON I know of is Thomas GARRISON, second husband of my third great grandmother, Ardenia Jane WOOD. Elva is very young in this photo- maybe 3 or 4 years old(?). The next mystery photo is Clifton ANDERSON, dated 1917, age 3 and a half. I have a Harper ANDERSON in my tree, as the spouse of Rosa RINER, (sister to William Jackson RINER, husband of Carrie WOOD mentioned above.) I'll be glad to send these photos to anyone interested. Any help appreciated. Thank you, Janet Berry

    1. [VAALBEMA] Searchable Census
    2. Hi Albemarle, I am trying to search the 1880 Albemarle census for Edwin Lunsford Loving and family. My census access is thru Ancestor.com and I've plowed through the Charlottesville city part of the census but, as you may know, there are many additional districts to search. Does anyone know if there is an index somewhere on the web for some of the 1880 districts or do any of you have a truely searchable census that you could peek at for Edwin. (Yes, ancestor.com is suppose to have an index but it's not all that complete and I usually do best seaching each page myself). His wife is Julia Poore Loving. I'm most interested in any children that may be listed. Thanks Sue Please visit Of Grave Concern, a web page dedicated to the preservation and protection of Maplewood Cemetery in Charlottesville VA http://members.aol.com/SueW601/concern.html
