    2. Your query seems somewhat vague. Have you done enough research to know where each family was at a certain date and at a certain place? Lumping them altogether with no clues is confusing to the reader. Dates and places are MOST important in establishing linkages. If you are time-limited, you might consider engaging the services of TLC Genealogy. They will do a surname search for $5.00 a surname. They use the records they themselves have compiled as well as the films held by the Library of Virginia. www.tlcgenealogy.com Also, have you used the online search facilities of the Library of Virginia, particularly the land patents (or grants in the case of Northern Neck Virginia). http://image.vtls.com/collections/cc_archive.html#gene Happy hunting. 2. Families with surnames BANNER/BONER, CAVENDER, COMFORT, HARTWELL, HAWKINS, LANGSTON, MULKY/MULKEY, PEARSON/PERSON, PEYTON, PLEASANT, REECE/REECE/REES, SPENCER appear in early records (prior 1850), all of which, from time to time, have been utilized by early BRUMIT (All Spelling Variants) as given names for children. This suggests possible relationships yet to be identified. Seeking any information that might assist in establishing such relationships. Joe Brumit

    2. Looking for information on the family of : Joseph Patterson and wife Mary who had a Deed dated 1788 in a land sale involving Major Dowel. It says in part: This Indenture was made 26th day of Feb 1788 between Joseph Paterson and Mary his wife of the county of Orange of the one part and Major Dowel of the county of Albemarle all in the state of VA. If anyone is doing research on this PATTERSON line, I would like to hear from you, as I believe that my ancestor William PATTERSON b. ca1780 Louisa Co.VA could possibly be their son. 1. [VAALBEMA] John DAWSON-Nancy MARTIN marriage
    2. Hello list, In "Virginia Marriages, Early Through 1800" is a marriage for John DAWSON to Nancy MARTIN, 7 Nov 1799, Albemarle Co. I sure would like to know if these are my ancestors! According to a Bible which belonged to the wife of John Martin DAWSON (and various census, tax, land and probate records)... John DAWSON (Sr.) b 21 Jan 1775, place unknown, married Nancy (said to be) MARTIN abt. 1800, possibly in Virginia. Lived in Virginia (county unknown) - Williamson Co., TN - Hardeman Co., TN - Tippah Co., MS. Died 24 Nov 1854, prob. in Tippah Co., MS. Nancy b 1770-1780 d 2 Oct 1853 prob. in Tippah Co., MS. Oddly enough, I haven't found them in the 1850 census. According to a Bible which belonged to Nathaniel Nicholas DAWSON, John's children were: Drucinda b 25 Nov 1801 VA John Martin b 10 June 1802 VA William H. b 08 July 1804 Williamson Co., TN Robert Anderson b 23 Nov 1807 Williamson Co., TN Elizabeth b 21 Jul 1809 Williamson Co., TN Lewis W. b 21 Dec 1811 Williamson Co., TN Nelson C. b 16 Dec 1814 Williamson Co., TN James C. b 25 July 1817 Williamson Co., TN Nathaniel Nicholas b 28 Apr 1819 Williamson Co., TN N.N.'s Bible *reportedly* has the words "children of James DAWSON and Mary MARTIN" scribbled in across the top. I don't know who put it there or how they came to the conclusion, but that there was a James and Mary DAWSON in Tippah Co., MS. That James died 1844, and his wife was in the 1850 census (born 1785 SC) with a John H. SMITH family. But since the John Martin DAWSON Bible lists death dates for Nancy DAWSON and John DAWSON (including his exact age), and all the early records call him John, I believe these to be the correct given names. Unfortunately, I still don't have concrete proof that her last name was MARTIN, but the above-mentioned marriage is the only match I can find for a John or James DAWSON marrying a Mary or Nancy of any surname in early Virginia records. One theory is that the James who was in Tippah Co., MS and *did* have a wife named Mary was a brother of John, but we have nothing to go on. Judging from census records, they apparently had children named James and John S., and probably Jane who married John H. SMITH. There could have been others as well - I haven't seen the probate records. I have been looking at the Thomas MARTIN-Ann MOORMAN line of Albemarle Co., Virginia and thinking that "my" Nancy may have been a grand-daughter, as their daughter Nancy was apparently too old, and was probably still married to Alexander BLAINE in 1801. Another daughter, Mary Ann "Molly" MARTIN, married a Benjamin DAWSON 10 Nov 1786 in Albemarle Co. Does anyone on the list know much about that family? I've also spent a lot of time trying to link John to the Rev. Martin DAWSON line of Amherst/Albemarle. There are some less common given names that are the same in both families. I'm pretty sure he wasn't a son of Martin, but perhaps a nephew or cousin. Any help greatly appreciated! I've been pushing on this wall for a long time, and it seems to be giving a little. Chandra Dawson Martin

    1. [VAALBEMA] Elijah Johnson
    2. Hello, I have just joined this list and am searching for information about an Elijah Johnson. I am not sure he is from Albemarle but the 1840 census had a whole nest of Johnson's and Elijah was one. Elijah and his wife Anna were both born about 1795. I know positively of 1 son, John P. Johnson. All were born in Virginia. They moved to Kentucky and show up there in the 1850 census in Morgan County. John P. Johnson was born August 7, 1822. These are my ggg-grandfather and my gggg-grandparents. If anyone can help me identify this family it would be greatly appretiated. I have information on John P. and his family but know nothing about Elijah and Anna. Thank you, JO

    1. [VAALBEMA] Calling ALL Descendants of Thomas White and Sarah Shelton
    2. Dear List Members, Friends, and Cousins, I need help in locating any and all researchers you are descendants of or have researched the family of Thomas White and his wife Sarah Shelton of Orange and Albemarle County, Virginia. I am currently trying to document this family and verify information found in many databases containing this family from off-line publications and online files. In comparing notes and group sheets from many different researchers, there is much confusion and not nearly enough documentation that shows much proof of anything. So I need to come in contact with anyone who is currently trying to document this family as well, so we can compare notes, theories, and share documents and pictures with each other so this family can be properly and forever documented, beyond a reasonable doubt. Here are some facts I have on Thomas and Sarah Shelton and some other unverified information. Sarah Shelton was the daughter of Henry Shelton of Albemarle County according to his will filed there in 1799. She was deceased by 1799 and Thomas inherited her share of the estate of Henry Shelton. Thomas Shelton is said to have had a daughter named Nancy White who married Caleb Oliver. They were married in Orange County in Sept. 10 or 15, 1792 according to their Marriage Bond on file there dated Sept. 5, 1792. According to the History of Jones Co. Georgia, Thomas and Sarah White had issue: (1) Shelton White who m. Mildred Clark on Dec. 11, 1794 in Elbert Co., GA. I believe Shelton died in Oglethorp Co., GA but I haven't confirmed this yet. (2) John White married Rachel Carter (3) Nancy white m. Caleb Oliver. He died in Elbert Co. in 1826 (4) Henry White m. Mary Starke (5) Thomas White, Jr. m. Elizabeth Haynes Clark (they are buried in White cemetery in Jones Co., GA) (6)Joseph White m. Avarilla Harper (7) William White m. Concord Hamilton Brown None of these children stated can be verified until I can locate the estate papers of Thomas White or his bible, if one exists at all. This is why I cal ling on other descendants to help me verify all of this BASED ON PRIMARY SOURCES, not what others say they "heard". Thomas White is believed to be a son of the John White of Orange County, Virginia, according to many online and off databases, but this can't be verified 100%. The Will of John White was written on August 8, 1787 and probated Monday, February 25, 1788 in Orange County by his Executors and Sons, Conyers White and Thomas White, and witnesses John and Mary White, Jr. According to the will of John White (1787) he names his wife and the following children and grandchildren: Ann White - His beloved Wife (To remain at Plantation for life) Thomas White - son (Inherited John Shelton's Plantation after the death of Ann White, which would make him the oldest according to old traditions) John White - son Conyers White - son Mary White Shackleford - daughter Theodosia Shackleford Early - granddaughter Frances Shackleford Phillips - granddaughter Ann Shackleford Rhodes - granddaughter Elizabeth Shackleford Davis - granddaughter Sarah Shackleford Leathers - granddaughter This doesn't prove weather this is indeed the Thomas white who married Sarah Shelton. There were several men with like names at that time. Maybe an estate record of Ann White might give more concrete proof of relationship. So, if anybody is actively working on documenting this family and has records show proof of relationship of Thomas to his father and Estate records of Thomas identifying ALL his heirs, I would really appreciate hearing from you. Any leads, comments, or would like to share documents, please contact me. Please remember to use your "REPLY ALL" button so others on these lists can follow along with the discussions about this White family. Happy 4th of July! Robert C.
