Does anyone still have a copy of the Sunday, July 25, 1999, Daily Progress from Charlottesville, VA? There is supposed to be an article in there on Howardsville. My Brown's were in Howardsville in the mid to late 1800's. I would love to have a copy of the article if someone would be so kind to find it for me. Thanks a bunch! Lonny

Brett: I have a book titled "Ancestry and Descendants of Richard Netherland, Esquire (1764-1832)". It has a chapter on the Woods family. Unfortunately, it has nothing on their ancestry. If anyone is interested I will be happy to look up info. Karen in CA
Jim, I have ordered some of the FTM census CD's but always check the familytreemaker.com site and select "order the CD" which, under "what you find in this CD", has a button for listing the counties of a state which are included in the state census. Many do not include all counties for some reason. However I did look at your CD #453, which is a six CD set and found that it says these states 1850 census is included in their entirety. I copied the below from the FTM site. If all is not included then you are indeed correct. Though I am happy with the CD's I ordered, I am glad you have made us all aware of problems with the CD #453. With the lawyers they employ I doubt they are lying on purpose but may be unaware that some records are missing. Also sounds like the customer help department is guessing at the problem and to me that is completely unsat. I am sending this to the list but many probably do not use these CD's and so may not be interested. Please let me know privately if you get any more info from the company on this or post to the list if no one really objects. Knowing if there is an incomplete CD out there does assist me. By the way, you can send any CD back in the first ninty days if you are unhappy or don't find anything useful on the CD and I can only assume that customer service can handle that reliably. You did ask for thoughts and these are mine for the moment. Take care. Glenn E. Harris THE BELOW FROM THE FAMILYTREEMAKER.COM SITE: Census Microfilm Records: Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, 1850 Family Archive CD 453 Family Archive CD 453 This Family Archive, a 6-CD set, indexes approximately 337,000 heads of household listed in the 1850 federal census from four southern states. It includes 123,322 individuals from Alabama, 40,238 individuals from Arkansas, 96,813 individuals from Louisiana, and 76,709 individuals from Mississippi. This Family Archive is especially valuable because it includes not only an index to these four states' portions of the 1850 census in their entirety but also images of the actual census pages -- in the census taker's own handwriting. ......................................................... Has anyone ever determined identified the parentage of following family group. I know they are not sons of Michael Woods of Blair Park. His son Richard married, I believe, a Jennie, or something similar. In any event, the following seem to be of record in both Albemarle and Augusta Counties. James Woods (patented land on Stockton's Creek In Albemarle Co c1749) Wife UNK. Children: UNK Samuel d 1784 (lived near James, one of the original purchasers of lots in Charlottesville) Wife: UNK. Children: Barbara m George Martin Margaret m Richard Netherland (moved to Sullivan Co TN) John B. Mary m Benjamin Harris Jane m Joseph Montgomery Elizabeth m William B. Harris Richard d. 1801 (lived north of Taylor's Gap; brokered real estate) Wife Elizabeth Ann Stuart (sister of Col John Stuart). Children: William George Mathews Richard Elizabeth m James Brooks There was also evidently a Charles Woods involved with this group. According to the abstracts of wills, Will Book 3, Augusta County, VA: Page 236.--21st May, 1761. Samuel McDowell and Richard Woods' bond (with David Stewart), as guardian (appointed) to Samuel, Arthur, Esther, Elizabeth, and Charles Woods, orphans of Charles Woods. The orphan Charles seems to have survived, showing up on the both the 1810 and 1820 Orange County Censuses. Also, I recently received this information: In DEATH and MARRIAGE NOTICES OF THE HILLSBOROUGH RECORDER 1820-1879; HILLSBOROUGH, NORTH CAROLINA Complied by SHIRLEY JONES MALLARD there is a marriage abstract on Page 47 as follows: 18 Nov 1829 Vol X #507 Married - CHARLES WOODS, 81, of the Revolutionary army, to MRS. MARGARET MACKLIN, 55, in this place, Thursday 5th inst, by THOMAS CLANCY. Charles is not enumerated on the 1830 Orange County Census. > Fellow searchers, I spoke to Karen and she said it was ok to post this to the list please send any replies to me [email protected] In a moment of boredom this morning, I was wandering around at www.ebay.com and found a catagory in their books section, called School Annuals. I have from time to time bought them at antique stores, with the plan to scan them in and put them online, yeah like I'll ever get around to it. LOL My thoughts were, they might be a good source for pictures of the later generations, along with some insight into their growing up. Don't know if anyone else is intrested, but just thought I would pass it along. This is not issued by anyone involved with Ebay, except as a buyer of Genealogy books and is NOT meant as acommercial venture, so please just read it, check if you want to, but please do not have a long ongoing discussion about wheither or not it belongs on the mail-lists. Any comments should be directed to me, not the entire list. [email protected] Thanks you, Lois Kennedy in Alvin, Tx Brazoria County+++= Where Texas Began
To all: Is anyone aware of any data missing from the original 1850 US Census, and if not, why would FTM sell an incomplete CD without some form of explanation? Anyone planning to buy, or having just bought the newly-released Family Tree Maker Family Archive CD 453, which is the 1850 Census Microfilm Records for Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, should consider the following information. According to their online literature, this Family Archive, a 6-CD set, indexes approximately 337,000 heads of household listed in the 1850 federal census from four southern states. It includes 123,322 individuals from Alabama, 40,238 individuals from Arkansas, 96,813 individuals from Louisiana, and 76,709 individuals from Mississippi. What FTM DOES NOT tell you in their literature is that CD 453 IS NOT COMPLETE. CD 453 does not contain the full 1850 census for the states noted above. Suspecting that the numbers quoted above are indeed low, I called Family Tree Maker twice in the last four days and was told by one person that the CD is 80% complete, and told by another person that some counties were not included. Neither of these customer representatives could tell me what counties were missing, nor from what state. Any thoughts? Jim
Hi, There was a Thomas Clark son of Francis Clarke & Cordelia Langford of Louisa, Va. They also had sons John and Francis(2). Francis (2) had two daughters ... Dolly & Lucy. John had a son Francis. I have references and some documentation on this family if they sound right to you. At one time I thought John was in my bloodline but now seriously doubt it. Francis(1) was relatively wealthy when he died as he left about 1400 acres including about 20 slaves and a "Plantation" in Louisa in a 1769 will. I think he was involved in politics and I believe the military. I can put you in touch with another researcher in the VAALBEMA-L mailist if these fit. a fellow searcher, Dick Clark -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Sunday, July 25, 1999 5:34 PM Subject: Nippenose Valley, Lycoming Co.
