    1. [VA-VETERANS] Rev War unit service records added to Record Hunter
    2. TD Maloney via
    3. DigitalCambria has added over 29,000 pages of Revolutionary War compiled unit service records to Record Hunter Search (RHSearch.com) covering 217 military units from Connecticut, Rhode Island, Virginia and the Continental Troops. Records are also online for Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Vermont. Unit service records are a great compliment to the records of individual veterans and can provide additional insight into a patriot’s service. Many unit records contain troop movements and assignments as well as encampments and the battles in a unit participated. The records added have not been indexed beyond the state and unit name; however, as time progresses items will be searchable by the names, places, battles, etc. found in the documents. Record Hunter, host of thousands of free records and resources for researchers, can be accessed at www.RHSearch.com. Rootsweb is a great resource for researchers to assist one another; as such, this email is meant as an informational post and not a discussion. If you should encounter an error on the website, or wish to provide feedback, please use the site's contact form. TD Maloney Director of Research CM&R www.DigitalCambria.com

    1. [VA-VETERANS] Roy/Roye/LeRoy Line in Va & West Virginia
    2. Pam Cox
    3. -- Hi Everyone, I just joined this list and am looking forward to contacting other members who are interested in these folks - from Va. and WV : The * LE ROY /ROY/ROY *E family line. I’ll share whatever I have and certainly hope to get more! *WEST VIRGINIA* Gordon K. Roy (living) Lorenzo Dow Roy (1889-1964) Randolph Co. (my grandfather) Jedson Roy (1850- 1925) Randolph Co. (g - grandfather) Washington Roy (1822-1904) Pendleton & Tucker Cos. (gg-grandfather) I have good info on these relatives and name them here mainly to give a family “foundation”. * VIRGINIA* Here’s where it gets sticky: *Joseph Roy (2) (1782-1862)* lived in Augusta/Rockingham / Hampshire Cos.(now Randolph /Pendleton /Tucker WV) (ggg-grandfather). Married to Sarah Summerfield (1788-1870). *Joseph Roy (1) ( b. ?1720 d. 1798) *lived in now Pendleton /Randolph/ Tucker WV (gggg-grandfather) This is where Joseph (1)’s trail goes cold. His wife was* Joely Summerfield (1750-1810)* and I have no info on his parents (or hers) or how or when he got into WV. There is documentation on both Joseph (1) & (2) ‘s military service in Lord Dunsmore’s War, French & Indian War, and Revolutionary War and it appears Joseph (1) was in what is now WV in mid-1700’s. Family lore says we are Scots-Irish and not the French Canadians that I keep bumping into online. I have been perusing the descendants of a Huguenot, *Hugh Leroy (1614-1657) *, who immigrated from England to King & Queen Co. Va. in 1635. His line, briefly: *Hugh Roy (1634-1694)* | *John Richard Roy (b. 1657 in Roy’s Neck)* * | Hannah, Richard Jr., James, John Guy* This family resided in (and may be the namesakes of)* Port Royal, Caroline Co., Va. *as well as *King & Queen Co. Va. *It's well-documented that this line later moved into Kentucky, but I have been unable to find a West Va. pioneer among them. I'm running out of places to look! -Does anyone have any reliable information that can either link or disprove a link between the early WV pioneer Roys and this Northern Neck family of Roye/LeRoy/ Roy? -Does anyone have any reliable information on Joseph Roy (1) that can point me in the direction of his or Joely Summerfield’s origins? -Does anyone have need of information that I may have on this family line? I’ll be happy to share. (Sources for the above on request). Thanks in advance, Pamela Roy Cox Virginia * *

    1. [VA-VETERANS] Please read-Genealogy Books-Southern Historical Press Shame

    3. In 2006 I transcribed two books on Pittsylvania County, VA- "Land Tax List of Pittsylvania County 1782-1802" and "Abstracts of Pittsylvania County, VaA Deeds 1783-1790"- which were published by Southern Historical Press in Greenville, SC. My contract called for me to receive $750.00 per book- a one time payment. LaBruce Lucas, the owner of Southern Historical Press, has only paid me for one of the books even though I have called him many times over the last four years. If you are interested in publishing a genealogy book, I would suggest that you not consider Southern Historical Press. Therefore I am going to sell the CDs of the books. I would be interested if any of you have any ideas on marketing these CDs. I will probably also put it on Amazon and Ebay. You can contact me privately at gayleaus@centurylink.net I am working on several other Pittsylvania Books but haven't had the heart to really get back into it. Thanks for listening. Gayle Austin

    3. Were none of the kids shown for Augustus in 1870 familiar to you??? Don't forget that he may have been using the single name Augustus (G. or Gus) and ignoring the 3rd name, I would exhaust the Library of VA for VA Confederates. You can, as you have done, check the National Archives, however their collection of Confederates is not at all as complete as is VA Library. The records of Union Prisoners are rather good, but to my knowledge there is no combined list of Reb prisoners. I presume you have searched the lists of the 53rd VA MILITIA; whether the records of that unit are a tad different from 53rd INFANTRY, but you better take a look, Finally, there are a good number of "Glenn" entries in the magnificent WAR OF THE REBELLION collection. While tedious to use, it might well be worth your effort. I suggest you go to the General Index first; it is there that you will find both the Glenn entries and those for the 53rd VA MILITIA. The Glenns appear in that Index at pp. 357-358 **************That URL is HTTP://DIGITAL.LIBRARY.CORNELL.EDU/M/MOAWAR/WARO.HTML Let me know how you do; that regiment likely will be interesting Paul Sent: Thursday, September 03, 2009 1:07 PM To: va-veterans@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [VA-VETERANS] Civil War Vet- A GLENN Hi --   Augustus Glenn was from Essex Co.(?) or Henrico.   He was in the 53rd Inf. Regiment.  I found him at age 21 in the 1850 Census, but cannot seem to maneuver through the 1870 census.  Where did you find that?   He was from VA and served in the Civil War. ......but I am trying to find out if he was a POW of Union forces.  If he were taken prisoner where his regiment was fighting, he could have been taken to a Union prison, who knows where.  That is was I am trying to find.   Thanks for your help. 3. Ms. Sherry. I presume you have checked the VA 1870 census, in which you will find "Augustus Glenn" at age 35 (just right) living in Richmond. Sarah was his wife, and he had daughters listed. Good luck Paul -----Original Message----- From: va-veterans-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:va-veterans-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of sherry trout Sent: Thursday, September 03, 2009 8:14 AM To: VA-VETERANS@rootsweb.com Subject: [VA-VETERANS] Civil War Veteran- A. 3. Ms. Sherry, the pay-for-genealogy sites, including Ancestry.com, have nowhere near the sources for VA soldiers that you will easily find at the VA library.
