A serious question to the group - and hopefully not one that is controversial. My lineage is from 1. Christopher Branch = Mary Addy (Jamestowne line) (Henrico Co.) 2. Thomas Branch = Elizabeth ___________(Gouch?) (Henrico Co.) 3. James Branch = Mary ________ (Henrico/Chesterfield Co.) 4. John Branch = Susannah __________(Chesterfield/Lunenburg/Bedford Cos.) 5. Sarah Branch = Edmund Goode (Bedford Co, VA) The question to the group: In the most recent version of "Adventurers of Purse and Person, Virginia, 1607-1624/5", 4th Edition, my line is listed as above. What is the chance that I will ever find out the surnames of the wives? The research in this book provides no additional clues to their families. I am a skilled researcher, but am concerned with spending endless hours chasing those who will not be found. Thank you for your insight. Susan
There can be no direct answers to your question, Susan. Why? Because you probably can not know the extent of the research done that resulted in the list, nor can you measure the experience of those who supposedly did such searching. Most dead ends result from mediocre, poor or no research atall. One thing for sure; you MUST search every record remaining that is to be found at the "wheres" of those men. Genealogy without documentation is nothing.
