1. [VA-SOUTHSIDE-L] Ashkenaz Williams
2. Dear Researchers, Anyone who has a person named Ashkenaz Williams in his/her genealogy should do a www.google.com search. Type in quotation marks ashkenaz williams and see what comes up. The name is unusual enough to get some more defined results than say, John Williams (ugh!) And I have at least two in my lineage! I have found this unusual name in colonial or early federal North CArolina and in western Kentucky. One deed (or power of attorney), I forget in which western KY (Jackson Purchase or adjoining) county, states that Ashkenaz is of Chatham Co., NC. This would have been ca 1830 or earlier. Was it Christian Co., KY--can't remember? (I am a rather senior citizen). I may stumble across this name again, as he seems to lurk in the same places as some of my Williamses, but I cannot link him to my Williamses. (Please, everyone, I don't know about every colonial Williams in VA or NC, and certainly NOT in SC. And I don't know of everyone by that surname in early Kentucky. You are on your own. Just pray for an unusual name like Ashkenaz!!!) E.W.Wallace

3. Before we end this discussion of Williamses, in 1820 my ancestor, Henry Brown, made entry in Henry Co TN for "land on the banks of the Tennessee with the meander of the river to the NE corner of Robert W. Williams". Since the Jackson Purchase counties were mentioned in some of the posts, and the fact that my lines were from VA via NC , I thought it might help some of you. County records also show that Henry Brown signed a note for Rebecca J.Williams for 500 acres of land, and that he sold land to Solomon Williams. I have no evidence of any relationship with the Williams , but would be interested if anyone could identify them .
