Hello List, Can someone help me find the family of John Newsom and wife E. M. on the 1850 Sussex County Census? They are my gr gr grandparents. I believe that they may have lived in a part of Sussex that later became Greensville. Thank you, Janice Branch Fox

Janice, This is just a wild shot in the dark, I guess, but I will ask you anyway. I have a Martha Newsom who married John Verell in the 1780's. Her mother was Lucy Jones (I think), a niece of Peter Jones of the Dinwiddie Co. area. Supposedly, her father was Benjamin Newsom. Martha's sister was Sarah Newsom who married Erasmus Gill. Are any of these people in your Newsom line? I have never been able to make contact with anyone from this branch of the family. I would like to confirm the existence of Benjamin Newsom as well as his marriage to Martha.
