There may not be a "best" place to research in VA. That is probably a matter of opinion. One thing I would suggest is to search the online catalog for the Family History Library in SLC. http://familysearch.org Search by state, and by county for materials that have been put on film. Also search by your surnames. You can order the films or microfiche in to your local FHC. The Library has a huge amount of material on Virginia, and not all of it is on film or fiche, but more is being filmed every day. It is a great resource.
